The purpose of this study was to attempt an organized approach to the relationship of elementary school organizational health to teacher job satisfaction, by examining how elementary school teachers perceived school organizational health and their job satisfaction to be.
For the purpose, the following research questions were posed:
First, what is the relationship of teacher characteristics(gender, career and position) and school characteristics(size and location) to the organizational health perceived by teachers?
Second, what is the relationship of teacher characteristics(gender, career and position) and school characteristics(size and location) to teacher job satisfaction?
Third, does the perceived organizational health make any correlation to teacher job satisfaction and its subfactors?
The subjects in this study were 380 selected teachers from five elementary schools in the city of Euijeongbu, eight in the city of Paju and ten in Yangju-gun, northern Kyonggi province.
The instruments used to diagnose the school organizational health was Yun Jong Geon's Organizational Health Diagnosis Questionnaire, or OHDQ. And the Korea Education Association's teacher job satisfaction questionnaire, or KTO, was employed.
The collected data wee analyzed with the Statistical Package for the Social Science, or SPSS. The findings of this study could be listed as below:
    1. The teachers investigated perceived their school organizational health to be positive, as that's scored above the average. The best-rated subvariable was innovation, followed by efficiency and cohesion in the order named. Those variables were all scored above the average. The .least-rated one was leadership, followed by adjustment. The two variables were estimated below the average.
    2. In regard to the perceived organizational health by teacher characteristics, there was little significant gap between the male and female teachers, although the former group had a better opinion on the organizational health than the latter. By teacher career, the more- experienced teachers viewed the organizational health more positively, but their career didn't make any noticeable difference. By position, the head teachers recognized the organizational health to be better than the lay teachers did.
    3. Concerning school characteristics, those in the schools with 13 to 24 classes considered the organizational health the best. The teachers in the schools with 12 classes or less had a more negative view than those in the schools with 25 classes or more, but the difference between the two groups wasn't significant. By school location, those from the eup region perceived the organizational health to be the best, and the teachers from the urban area had a more negative opinion than those from the myeon or smaller region.
    4. The teachers tended not to be so satisfied with their job. By subfactors, human relations were satisfactory the most, and the second most satisfying one was administrative system and duty in charge. The reward and acknowledged standing were dissatisfactory.
    5. By teacher characteristics, the male teachers were more pleased with their job than the females, and the more-experienced teachers expressed a greater job satisfaction.
    6. In relation to school characteristics, school size made little significant difference, although those in the larger schools found their job more satisfactory. By school location, the teachers from the eup area expressed the best job satisfaction, and those from the rural region were less satisfied than those from the myeon or smaller region.
    7. The teachers who found the school organizational health to be more positive expressed a greater satisfaction at the job satisfaction subvariables, including human relations, duty in charge, working environment, reward, professional growth, administrative system and acknowledged standing.
    8. In general, those(the upper group) who perceived the school organizational health to be better found their job more satisfactory, compared to the others(the lower group) who considered it poor. Consequently, it could be said that the school organizational health perceived by the elementary school teachers had a close relation to their job satisfaction.
