The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of integrated music activities based on musical concept on preschool children's musicality and creativity in action and movement. For that purpose, the following research questions were posed:
First, what is the impact of integrated music activities based on musical concept on preschool children's musicality?
Second, what is the influence of integrated music activities based on musical concept on preschool children's creativity of action and movement?
The subjects in this study were 24 selected young children who were full four years old in C Children's House in the city of S, Kyonggi Province, including 12 boy and 12 girl children. The instrument used to track their musicality was Gorden(1986)'s PMMA(primary measures of music audition), a musical aptitude test, that was reorganized by Shin In Sook(1994). To measure their creativity in action and movement, Torrance(1981)'s TCAM(thinking creatively in action and movement), one of his TTCT(Torrance test of creative thinking), was adapted by myself and used through the advice of a preschool education specialist. The collected data were analyzed with SPSS(statistical package for the social science). t-test was conducted to see how the integrated music activities based on musical concept affected young children's musicality and creativity in action and movement, and paired-test was utilized to find out the change of their musicality and creativity in action and movement before and after they engaged in the integrated activities.
The findings of this study were as below:
First, the integrated music activities based on musical concept gave a significant impact on the development of the young children's musicality(t=2.58, p<0.5).
Second, the integrated music activities based on musical concept had a significant influence on the development of the preschool children's creativity in action and movement(t=3.80, p<.01).
B. Conclusion
The following conclusion was made based on the above-mentioned findings:
First, the integrated music activities based on musical concept exercised an influence on the development of the young children's musicality.
Second, the integrated music activities based on musical concept had an effect on the development of the preschool children's creativity in action and movement.
Therefore, it's suggested in this study that providing a variety of experiences and opportunities for preschool children to contact more concrete, systematic activities actually serves to enhance their music comprehension and creative ability, and ultimately enables them to exert their own ability as much as possible and lead a better life in the 21st century's new society.
