The purpose of this study was to find out the prevalence and the problems of internet addiction disorder of youth and to provide basic data for improvement of welfare for youth by scheming sound growth and development of youth by trying to grope for plan of prevention and treatment of the disorder of youth.
The study was based on the research by the questionnaire with the selected 500 youth who was first and second grade students of high school in Taejon.
The results indicated that, of the sample of 439 youth who were responded to the questionnaire, a high percentage(66.5%) were found to be internet addiction disorder. There was a disproportionately large munber of addicted boy(41.9%) compare to girl(24.6%).
And the research findings were that the youth used internet such means of pleasure as game, chatting and exchange of the message, instead of using it as means for the study or sharing of information.
Regarding times and length of using internet, respondents with internet addiction disorder were found to use internet extremely and especially in the midnight, compared with those without it.
Respondents with internet addiction disorder when compared with those without it spent less time with their families and on hobby or leisure. Their time spent internet continued to increase since they first started the use.
The study showed that the respondents with internet addiction disorder to suffer more from the physical problems, emotional condition, friends and family relationship and the difficulties in studying.
The study found that special attention needs to be paid to students with internet addiction disorder.
With colligating the results, the study showed internet took the place of life of the youth and occurance of disorder was started by internet.
Therefore, family, school, and social work must be cooperated and make an effort to develop the further study continually.
