This study was to seek effective measures for activating students rhythmic gymnastics by looking into the present situation and realities of the gymnastics, the importance of its early education and parents' interest and expectation. The survey was conducted within the limit of primary schools in Seoul that give lessons of rhythmic gymnastics. Therefore, 150 students and 150 parents of them were participated in the study although the actual analysis was carried out with 214 copies only. The following are the results from it with SPSS/PC+.
First, the fact-finding survey revealed that an average frequency of participation is three times a week (an hour one time) and that the average period is about six months. The fee and environment are proved to be appropriate but special teachers are on demand.
Parents answered that they get their students to be taken the rhythmic class for the development and growth of the body and that they select gymnastic facilities in the neighbor.
Second, it was found out that parents actively support students participation in rhythmic activities with high interest, recommending them to see the air and performances about rhythmic gymnastics.
Third, to the inquiry how much expectation parents have of the gymnastics, they answered that they want their students to have not only the good shape and weight but also flexibility and healthy body. In addition, they expect that those activities can lead students to have good company, sociability, partnership, power of express and so on. Furthermore, they desire physical classes to be helpful. However, to the question about raising their students as gymnasts, they prefer that their students are just enjoying as a hobby.
Fourth, to the inquiry how much cognition and needs they have, students responded that after joining in those activities they could have the well-balanced figure and strong body. And living in a group has let them cultivate cooperativeness.
On the basis of the results, solutions for activating rhythmic gymnastics for students can be offered as follows:
First, introducing the gymnastics as an education course.
Second, educating and re-educating for special teachers.
Third, providing opportunities regularly for open classes and presentations.
Fourth, increasing the frequency of the class and running a class for interest.
Fifth, developing related kidvids and offering chances to see events and video programs.
Sixth, expanding space in gyms for the rhythmic gymnastics and opening.
