This study was aimed to make useful materials to build smooth mother-child relationship, to represent a desirable mother's personality type, self-concept, and creativity from finding clear correlative relations between the personality types of mothers and self-concept and creativity of young children.
The research questions for this study are as follows:
First, is there any difference between mothers' personality types?
Second, what is the relationship between the personality types of mother and the self-concept of young children?
Third, what is the relationship between the personality types of mother and the creativity of young children?
In order to examine mothers' personality types, self-concept and creativity of young children, 180 young children attended kindergarten in Kwangju area and 180 mothers of those young children were participated in this study.
For this study, mothers' personalty types were measured by applying the Korean version of MBTI (1990) standardized by Jung-Taek Kim and Hye-Suk Shim. Testing for self-concept of young children was carried out by a picture testing tool called "I feel‥‥Me feel" that was created by Bently and Yertts, which was translated into Korean by Yun-hee Lee In 1995.
The results of the study are as follows;
First, ISTJ showed the highest distribution among 16 different mothers' character types, acknowledged the self-concept and imagination of young children, and showed the highest distribution In the creativity levels.
Second, regarding the differences in self-concept of young children following the mothers' personality types, ISFJ showed the highest average points in the self-concept of young children out of 8 different mothers' character types. Mothers' personality types and self-concept of young children showed no difference.
Results showed that ESFJ in the acknowledged self-concept, ISFJ in sentiments, ISFJ in the social self-concept and ISFJ In the physical self-concept were deeply connected iii the lower levels, The degree of consciousness statistically showed somewhat meaningful in the physical self-concept (p<0.05).
Third, creativity differences of young children according to mothers' characteristics, ISTP showed the highest points and little difference from a statistical point of view.
In each lower level, ISTP in creativity, ISTP in flexibility, ISTP in creative power and ESFJ in imagination proved to have the highest point. The degree of consciousness showed little difference in creativity.
