This study proposes to develop the a group counseling program for juvenile delinquents based on Solution-Focused Brief Counseling approach. It will examine therapeutic factors and the effectiveness of the program by studying the effectiveness of the problem-solving skills taught and used by the juvenile delinquents.
The research questions were set up as follows;
1. Will the solution-focused brief group counseling improve the juvenile delinquents´ appraisal in their problem-solving ability?
2. What are the therapeutic factors that the juvenile delinquents consider to be important in the solution-focused brief group counseling?
3. What changes do the clients experience in each session?
To perform this study, the subjects attended group counseling for two months. During the two month period, the subjects attended group counseling once a week for two hours. The subjects was composed of twelve juvenile delinquents who were P juvenile reformatory residents.
The instruments used for this study were the Problem-Solving Inventory(PSI) and Yalom´s Therapeutic Factors.
The conclusions of this study are as follows;
First, the group counseling problem based on the solution-focused brief group counseling had partial meaningful consequences in the juvenile delinquents´ confidence in their problem-solving ability.
Second, after the second session, the rank order of therapeutic factors for the solution-focused brief group counseling were listed as follows; universality, family reenactment, self-understanding, and existential factors.
Third, after the fifth session, the rank order of the therapeutic factors were listed as follows; instillation of hope, universality, existential and cohesiveness.
Fourth, after the eighth session, the rank order of the therapeutic factors were listed as follows; universality, instillation of hope, identification and cohesiveness.
