    The purposes of this study are to identify the relationships between family cohesion, family adaptability and family system type on college adjustment and to examine college adjustment in terms of family system defining desirable family cohesion and family adaptability level.
    The research questions set up for the study are as follow;
    First, Does the level of family cohesion make a difference to their college adjustment?
    Second, Does the level of family adaptability make a difference to their college adjustment?
    Third, Does the level of family system type make a difference to their college adjustment?
    The subjects are 251 male and 385 female students attending 4-year college in Pusan(from sophomore to senior).
    The instruments used for this study is Family Cohesion & Adaptability Scale and Student Adaptation to College Questionnaire. The collected data is analyzed by the following ; One way ANOVA and Duncan Test.
    Major findings from this study are summarized as follows ;
    First, there are meaningful differences between social adjustment and personal-emotional adjustment which are subvariable factors of college adjustment by their perception family cohesion levels. However, there are no meaningful differences between academic adjustment and institutional adjustment.
    Second, there are meaningful differences between in all kind of subvariable factors of college adjustment - academic adjustment, social adjustment, personal-emotional adjustment, institutional adjustment - by their perception family adaptability levels.
    Third, there are meaningful differences between in all kind of subvariable factors of college adjustment - academic adjustment, social adjustment, personal-emotional adjustment, institutional adjustment - by their perception family system type.
    Therefore the conclusion of this study are as follows ;
    First, college students who perceive themselves connected family are more likely to adapt to social adjustment and personal-emotional adjustment than those who perceive themselves disengaged family or enmeshed family. Second, college students who perceive themselves flexible family are more likely to adapt to academic adjustment, social adjustment, personal-emotional adjustment and rank high institutional adjustment than those who perceive themselves rigid family or chaotic family.
    Third, college students from balanced family are more likely to adapt to academic adjustment, social adjustment, personal-emotional adjustment and rank high institutional adjustment than those from mid-ranged family or extreme family.
