The purpose of this research is to study and shed light on juvenile delinquents in respect to their stances of communication, perceptions of their parents´ stances of communication and characteristics of their behavior. By investigating the afore-mentioned arenas, it was hoped that in the process, the variables responsible for influencing the related aspects would be revealed.
The following questions were used as a basis in attempting to establish the purpose of this research as previously stated:
First, the degree to which a juvenile delinquent´s stances of communication are influenced was mostly determined by his parents´ stances of communication.
Secondly, the level that a particular individual´s behavioral characteristics were influenced by his communication stances.
In order to investigated these questions, we surveyed four hundred and fifty male juvenile delinquents by providing them with questionnaires concerning communication stances, characteristics of their pertinent behavioral characteristics and each individual´s parents´ stances of communication. for hundred and two males completed the questionnaire and the results were analysed using the correlation and multiple regression analysis.
The conclusions that can be drawn from the given data are as follows :
First, a dysfunctional stance of communication causes a dysfunctional relationship and, a placating stance, irrelevant stance results in a similar stance of communication that the child learns from the parents. from this information, we can infer that a dysfunctional communication stance results from the parents. A blaming stance and a super-reasonable stance had the attributes of ignoring others and lacked any particular influential stance of dysfunctional communication from the parents. From this we concluded that there was basically little correlation between the placating stance and the other stances.
Next, a placating stance showed high correlation with a positive change of behavioral characteristics. Especially the blaming and irrelevant stances showed a noteworthy connection to deviant behavior and the influence that each communication stance had on the adolescent´s behavioral patterns could be traced to the individual´s inner mental state: this provided sufficient evidence into the reasons or causes for the dysfunctional behavior.
