1. The purpose of the study
The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of factors on
career development of the middle and high school students. In other words,
this study was to clarify the effects of multiple intelligence, emotional
intelligence, socio-economic status, self-concept on Career Development
Inventory.
2. The questions of the study
This study was carried on to solve the questions as follows;
1) Are there any differences between individual's internal-external
variables and career plan(CP)?
2) Are there any differences between individual's internal-external
variables and career exploration(CE)?
3) Are there any differences between individual's internal-external
variables and career decision making(DM)?
4) Are there any differences between individual's internal-external
variables and world of work information(WW)?
5) Are there any differences between individual's internal-external
variables and career development attitudes (CDA)?
6) Are there any differences between individual's internal-external
variables and career development knowledge and skills(CDK)?
7) Are there any differences between individual's internal-external
variables and career orientation total(COT)?
3. The methods of the study
The subjects were selected from the middle school, high school students.
The student participants were totaled to 837 students from 8 schools in
Seoul. The instruments used in this study were CDI designed by Super,
Myers, Jordaan, Thompson, Lindeman(1981), Korean-Hillside Assessment of
Perceived Intelligence by Ryu Sook Hi(1996), Emotional Intelligence Scale
by Yoon Hyen Suk(1997), Self-Concept Scale by Joeng Won Sik(1968). The
data were processed by SAS statistic program, and the questions of the
study were verified by use of statistical methods such as multiple
regression analysis. And socio-economic status scale was made by the
researcher.
4. The results of the study
The results of the study were as follows;
1) The level of career plan has been influenced of the musical, logical-
mathmetical, linguistic intelligence, motivating emotions, personal self. These
variables have been shown statistically significant difference and have been
explained about 25 percentages in the level of career plan.
2) The level of career exploration has been influenced of the musical,
bodily-kinesthetic, logical-mathmetical, linguistic intelligence, regularating
emotions in others, family self. These variables have been shown
statistically significant difference and have been explained about 17
percentages in the level of career exploration.
3) The level of career decision making has been influenced of the
musical, bodily-kinesthetic intelligence, knowing emotions in others,
motivating emotions, regularating emotions in others. These variables have
been shown statistically significant difference and have been explained about
18 percentages in the level of career decision making.
4) The level of world of work information has been influenced of the
bodily-kinesthetic, logical-mathmetical intelligence, knowing one's own
emotions, knowing emotions in others, motivating emotions, regularating
emotions in others, moral ethical self, family self. These variables have been
shown statistically significant difference and have been explained about 21
percentages in the level of world of work information.
5) The level of career development attitudes has been influenced of the
musical, bodily-kinesthetic, logical-mathmetical, linguistic intelligence,
motivating emotions, family self. These variables have been shown
statistically significant difference and have been explained about 30
percentages in the level of career development attitudes.
6) The level of career development knowledge and skills has been
influenced of the musical, bodily-kinesthetic intelligence, knowing emotions
in others, motivating emotions, regularating emotions in others, moral ethical
selt, family self. These variables have been shown statistically significant
difference and have been explained about 25 percentages in the level of
career development knowledge and skills.
7) The level of career orientation total has been influenced of the musical,
logical-mathmetical, bodily-kinesthetic, linguistic intelligence, motivating
emotions, regularating emotions in others, family self. These variables have
been shown statistically significant difference and have been explained about
33 percentages in the level of career decision making.
This study may be considered as one of the fundamental resources in
investigating the relationships between the career maturity levels and
individual's internal-external variables. But we need to search for the other
influential variables on career maturity, because the size of effect is small.
