The purpose of this study was to examine how the degrees of self-acceptance and other-acceptance are related with academic achievement of middle schools. The Relationships inspected in this study were general achievement, achievement of individual subjects according to the degrees of self and other acceptance, and sexes. Seven hundred and seventy-five students are randomly sampled from 2nd grader of middle schools located in Kyeong sangnam-do, The tools used are Phillips's Self-Acceptance Scale, Hey's Other-Acceptance, and achievement test scores. Achievement tests are constructed by each subject teacher on the basis of the achievement test items edited by Kyeong sangnam-do Board of Education.
Students whose scores ranged within upper twenty-five percentile and within lower twenty-five percentile on each scale were classified as high or low acceptance group.
The conclusions according to the results and the discussions of this study are as follows;
First, on the whole, the higher the degrees of self-acceptance and those of other-acceptance are, the higher the academic achievement are. But in the case of female students, the degrees of other-acceptance had no relationship with their achievement.
Second, hish group students of self-acceptance get higher achievement on ethics and science than low group students do High group students of other-acceptance get remarkably higher achievement on science than low group students do. However, the achievement on mathematics seems to have no relationship either with the degrees of self-acceptance or with the degrees of other-acceptance .
Third, among high group students of self-acceptance and of other-acceptance, male and female students have made no differences on general achivements. This is the same case with low group students both of self and other-acceptance.
Fourth, concerning achievement of individual subjects ,high group male students of self-acceptance and of other-acceptance get higher scores than high group female students of those measures on social studies and science.
