근대 야담의 서사적 전통과 대중 지향적 변모 : 『월간야담』을 중심으로 = (The) narrative tradition & popularity-oriented transfiguration of modern yadam(근대 야담)

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This thesis is concerning the narrative tradition and popularity-oriented transfiguration of Modern Yadam(近代 野談) through 『Wolgan Yadam(月刊野談)』, Yadam-specializing magazine, which originated in October 1934. The results of this study can be summarized as follows :
1. The narrative tradition of Modern Yadam was examined. It is related to te succession of tradition of Yadam, therefore it is essential to ascertain what part of the previous Yadam(前代 野談) was accepted or adapted in 『Wolgan Yadam』in order to understand the narrative tradition of Yadam
1) In case of inventing stories on the basis of Sahwa(史話), the narration centers on characters and re-evaluates them from a modern point of view. And Yadam writers could approach characters with more liberty because they described hidden characters in history rather than famous ones.
2) When the previous Yadam was adapted the narration focused on events. When it took up the previous Yadam, Modern Yadam concentrated on description of characters and assured the probability of the narration by creating more grotesque circumstances or by making circumstances more specific. It is the characteristic of Modern Yadam.
2. The transfiguration of popuarity-oriented of Modern Yadam was examined, which distinguishes between Modern Yadam and the previous Yadam. Since Modern Yadam was characterized as popular novels. A variety of modern literary methods were applied to draw readers´ interest and modern Yadam tried to satisfy readers´ expectations.
1) Modern Yadam was written in Korean and was able to obtain the popularity, which was connected to the number of readers directly.
2) The application of modern literary methods was closely related to the number of readers.
3) Since the 37th issue, 『Wolgan Yadam』 became popularity-oriented severly. Newspapers and magazines demanded more popular novels of writers to increase the number of subscribers and solve financial problems. So interest came to the priority in Modern Yadam.
