The purpose of this study is as follows :
1. to compare causes and aspects of the conflict between mother-in-law and daughter-in-law in employment and unemployment,
2. to examine some variables which have effect to conflict,
3. to suggest its research data,
4. to establish a better relationship between mother-in-law and daughter-in-law and daughter-in-law
In order to accomplish the purpose, this study was focused on the following questions :
1. Is there significant difference of the conflict between the employed and the unemployed daughter-in-law ?
2. Is there significant difference of the conflict between dyad according to the variables ?
The variables are daughter-in-law's age, education, religion, order, the standard of living(income), mother-in-law's religion. the satisfaction of living together with dyad, right of housewife, daughter-in-law's effort for better relationship between dyad, and daughter-in-law's background etc.
The subjects of this study were 134 of the employed daughter-in-law and 159 of the unemployed daughter-in-law with at least one child in cohabitant family living in Jeon-Ju, I-Ri, Kun-San, and Nam-Won.
The collected data were analysed by statistical methods such as frequencies, percentile, mean, t-test, Pearson's correlation, ANOVA, and multiple regression analysis.
The results are as follows :
1. The mean score of the conflict was found 58.2 and 53.43 in the employed and the unemployed daughter-in-law respectively.
So the conflict of dyad was middle degree.
The degree of the conflict between the employed and the unemployed daughter-in-law appeared significant difference (P<0.001 ).
The employed daughter-in-law's conflict was higher than the unemployed daughter-in-law's conflict.
2. Causes of the conflict :
The first high cause was sense of value, the second mother-in-law's lacking tolerance, the affection between mother and son, the role expectation, the power structure, the next the role performance in the employed daughter-in-law.
So it was found that most of the conflict in the employed daughter-in-law were mainly arising from the sense of value and mother-in-law's lacking tolerance.
In the unemployed daughter-in-law, the first high cause of conflict was the role expectation, the second the affection between mother and son, mother-in-law's lacking tolerance, the power structure, the sense of value, the next the role performance.
So it was found that most of the conflict in the part of the unemployed daughter-in-law to their mothers-in-law were mainly arising from the role expectation and the affection between mother and son.
3. The employed daughter-in-law and the unemployed daughter-in-law was no significant difference according to the variables such as the daughter-in-law's age, education, and religion.
But there is significant difference according to the variables such as the standard of living(P<0.05), mother-in-law's religion(P<0.001), daughter-in-later's order(P<0.001), the satisfaction of living together with dyad(P<0.001), the right of housewife (P<0.05), daughter-in-law's effort for better relationship between dyad (P<0.001), daughter-in-law's background (P<0.001).
4. In the result of multiple regression analysis, it appeared that in the employed daughter-in-law, the degree of the conflict between mother-in-law and daughter-in-law were directly affected by mother-in-law's religion, daughter-in-law's age, background, education, the satisfaction of living together with dyad, effort for better relationship between dyad, effort for better relationship between dyad, and the standard of living( income ).
And in the unemployed daughter-in-law, the conflict of the dyad was directly affected by daughter-in-law's effort, order, education, background age, right of housewife, the standard of living (income), the satisfaction of living together with dyad, and mother-in-law's religion.
