This study aimed to examine the effect of group career counseling unitlizing C-MBTI on children's career maturity and self-concept.
The subjects for this research were composed of 48 elementary school children in Pusan city. They were randomly aassigned to experimental and control group.
The experimental group who received group career counseling utilizing the C-MBTI for 28 hours during 14 sessions, the control group had no treatment.
The instruments used for this study were three kinds. One was the Crites'(1973) Career Maturity Inventory. The second instrument was the Self-Concept Scale by Chung(1968). The third was the standardized academic achievement score administered by the School Board.
The data were analysed by the t-test to find out the significant difference between the mean of the post-test and pre-test.
As the result of t-test, the career maturity denoted statistical significant difference between the experimental and the control group (p<.05). The effect of career maturity were differed according to children's gender. The girls had more increased career maturity than boys. The effect of career maturity was not differed in terms of children's academic achivement level. Lastly, the experimental group's children got more increased self-concept than the control group.
Conclusions from the results and discussions of this research are as follows:
1. Group career counseling utilizing C-MBTI is effective for increasing career maturity and self-soncept.
2. Group career ounseling is more effective for increasing girls' career maturity and self-concept than boys.
3. Group career counseling does not show and differential effect in terms of self-concept and career maturity according to the academic achievement level.
