This study aimed to examine the developmental aspects of affective perspective - tasking ability of korean children with reference to the type of situation, grade and sex.
The subjects of this study were 72 children randomly sampled from the 1st, 3rd, and 5th grade of Ami primary school.
The task used in this study were sixteen stories devepoled by the author. The stories were devided into happiness, sadness, anger and fear situations, related to human versus non-human and simple ersus complicated situations.
The following conclusions were obtained from the results and discussion of this study.
First, children's affective perspective - taking ability reveals differently by the complicatedness of the situation. Therefore, children's affective perspective - taking ability develops more slowly in the situations that two different emotions are intermingled than in the simple emotion situation.
Second children's affective perspective - taking ability reveals differently by the situations related to types the emotion. That is children's affective perspective - taking ability reveals highest in the situations related to happiness and sadness, whereas lowest in fear situation.
Third, chielren's affective perspective - taking ability at the 1st grade reveals lower than those at the 3rd and 5th grade, whereas no difference reveals between the 3rd and 5th grade. There fore children's affective perspective - taking ability develops rapidly from the 1st to the 3rd grade.
Fourth, children's affective perspective - taking ability is generally high in girls than in boys. However, this difference reveals in the situations related to happiness, sadness and fear wherears no difference reveals in the anger situation.
