In this paper, a dynamic bandwidth allocation algorithm is proposed by using a weighted average method for supporting connectionless services in ATM networks. When a connectionless data packet with high burstiness arrives at a node during a bandwidth changing period, the bandwidth allocated for the next period will be dynamically determined by this algorithm based on values of counters measuring the number of arriving cells. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm may properly allocate the bandwidth required by real traffic regardless of the number of traffic streams.
