This study was to prove the reladon among three vahables of status process, and achievement. According to the author's judgement of a long experience as a pnmary school teacher, it seems that various kinds of variables of school children's home environment and their parents' interest may influence the children's achievement to a considerable degree. So the following hypotheses(H) are presented:
H1 : There may be a difference in the degree of achievement according to status variables of home environment.
H2 : There may be a difference in the degree of achievement according to process vahables of home environment.
H3 : There may be a difference in the degree of achievement according to the correlation between status vanablesand process variables
The subjects of this study are 480 students in primary schools.
14 schools are sampled over rural and urban areas. The measuring instrument is the questionaire which consists of 40 items. It is constructed on the basis of Won-shik Jeong's The Diagnostic Test of Home Environment.
On the other hand, the scores of achievement was counted by the first-semester grade in 1993.
The mean score of 9 subjects such as Ethics, Korean, Society, Arithmetic, Nature, Music, Gymnasdcs, Arts and Business was used as the scale of achievement.
The results of testifying the htpotheses are like the following;
(1) The higher the degree of status variable is, the more developed children's achievement become.
(2) There is not a significant difference in both variables of process and achievment Although there is a significant difference in subvariables of process such as achievement vs. comfort, open-minded vs. close-minded, autonomy vs. heteronomy, there is no signiScant difference in the subvahable of acceptance vs. rejection.
(3) There is a significant difference among variables of status, process, and achievement. The degree of achievement is greater in groups of higher status than in groups of higher psychological process, whereas it is greater in groups of lower process than in groups of lower status.
If we consider the resalts above, it thus appears that this study can be a useful reference material for children and parents education as well as for developing the educational programs.
