드라마 <더 글로리>의 기호학적 분석 = A Semiotic Analysis of the Drama 'The Glory'

국문 초록 (Abstract)

Netflix에서 상영된 인기 드라마 <더 글로리>는 복수를 장르로 한 드라마로서 스토리 서사와 캐릭터 형성과 같은 면에 뚜렷한 특징과 선직적인 진보성을 갖추고 있다. 이 드라마는 제1서사 시각으로 건축가를 꿈꾸었던 문동은이 고등학교 시절 학교 폭력을 당해 퇴학당한 후, 몇 년 뒤 당시 학교 폭력 사건 주모자의 아이의 담임 교사로 나서며 벌어지는 복수극을 그린 것이다. <더 글로리>는 계층 갈등, 권력 폭력을 접점으로 심도 있는 사회 문제 분석을 진행하였다.
본고는 드라마에서 3가지 관계 6가지 행위소 모형에 대한 서사를 분석하고 다양한 인물 간의 감정적 관계와 서사적 관계를 깊이 이해하고자 한다. 이러한 주요 캐릭터와 인물 간의 통합 분석을 통해 영화 및 TV 드라마의 심층 서사 논리를 밝히고 드라마의 주제 사상과 깊은 사회적 함의를 전달하며 드라마의 독특한 영상 예술적 가치와 문화적 가치를 반영하도록 할 것이다.
본 연구의 전반부에서는 그레마스의 행위소 모델, 즉 행위자의 6가지 요소를 도입하여 『더 글로리』의 서사 구조를 분석하고, 주체/대상, 발신자/수신자, 조력자/적대자의 세 가지 서사 관계를 이용하여 여주인공 문동은의 복수 계획에 대한 심층 분석을 진행하였다. 이를 통해, 개인의 복수 행위 분석에서 사회 문제와 인간 본성에 대한 심도 있는 논의를 할 수 있었다. 실제로, 그레마스의 행위소 모델은 거의 50년 동안의 발전을 거쳐, 문학 텍스트, 영화 및 TV 시리즈, 무대 공연 및 기타 분야의 연구에 널리 사용되고 있다. 이 이론은 문학 서사의 등장인물에서 출발하여, 등장인물을 특정 기능을 가진 행위 요소 모델로 통합한 다음, 서사 텍스트에서 상대적으로 안정적인 서사 모드를 분리시킬 수 있다. 그레마스는 세 그룹의 행위 요소를 바탕으로, 의소(seme, 의미의 최소 단위) 수준의 행위 모드인 욕망 생성, 능력, 목표 달성, 보상의 표층 구조를 제안함으로써, 서사 문법을 확립했다. 행위 모드의 4단계 구조는 '목표 달성'을 중심으로 이루어지며, 이들 사이에는 논리적인 관계를 가지고 있다. 본 연구의 공헌은 『더 글로리』와 같은 전형적인 복수극의 줄거리를 이론적으로 분석하여, 이러한 유형의 드라마의 서사적 특징과 서사 문법을 정리하고, 상대적으로 정형화된 서사 구조를 형성하는 데 있다.
본 연구의 후반부에서는 그레마스의 기호 사각형 이론을 소개하였다. '기호 사각형 이론'에 따르면, 『더 글로리』의 스토리 요소 중 하나(즉, 주인공 문동은)를 S1로, 그의 적대자 박연진을 S2로 가정한다. S1은 S2와 서로 절대적인 대립 관계이고, -S1와 S1은 모순되지만 반드시 대립 관계는 아니며, -S1과 -S2는 대립 관계로, S2와 –S1은 보조 관계로 구성된다. 이 이론적 모델은 소설, 영화, TV 시리즈 속의 등장인물 간의 복잡한 관계에 대한 심층 분석을 제공하여, 스토리의 깊은 의미를 더 쉽게 이해할 수 있도록 해준다. 기호 사각형 모델에 대한 분석을 통해 극본의 이야기 전개와 인물 관계를 명확히 할 수 있고, 다른 한편으로는 인간 본성의 복잡성과 삶의 무력함을 드러낼 수도 있다. 사람들에게 감동을 주는 것은 멋진 영상이 아니라, 그 영상 아래 숨겨진 사회적 현실이다. 이는 현재의 영화와 드라마가 성공의 길이라고 할 수 있는 현실에 집중해야 한다는 영감을 준다.

The popular drama "The Glory", which was screened on Netflix, is a drama with a genre of revenge, and has distinct characteristics and linear progressiveness in terms of storytelling and character formation. This drama depicts a revenge drama in which Moon Dong-eun, who dreamed of becoming an architect from the perspective of the first narrative, was expelled from high school after being subjected to school violence, and a few years later, she served as a homeroom teacher for the child of the mastermind of the school violence incident. "The Glory" conducted an in-depth analysis of social problems with class conflict and power violence at the point of contact.This paper aims to analyze the narratives of the three relationships and the six behavioral models in the drama, and to deeply understand the emotional and narrative relationships between various characters. Through the integrated analysis between these major characters and characters, the logic of the in-depth narrative of movies and TV dramas will be revealed, the subject ideology and deep social implications of the drama will be conveyed, and the unique image and artistic values and cultural values of the drama will be reflected.In the first half of this study, the narrative structure of 『The Glory』 was analyzed by introducing Gremas's behavioral model, that is, six elements of the actor, and an in-depth analysis of the revenge plan of the heroine, Moon Dong-eun, was conducted using three narrative relationships: subject/target, sender/receiver, and helper/hostile. Through this, in-depth discussions on social issues and human nature were made in the analysis of individual revenge behaviors. In fact, Gremas' behavioral model is widely used in literary texts, film and TV series, stage performances, and other fields after nearly 50 years of development. This theory can start with a character in a literary narrative, integrate the character into a behavioral element model with a specific function, and then separate a relatively stable narrative mode from the narrative text. Gremas established narrative grammar by proposing a surface structure of desire generation, ability, goal achievement, and reward, which are modes of behavior at the level of small (minimum unit of meaning), based on the elements of action of the three groups. The four-stage structure of the behavior mode is centered on 'achievement of goals', and there is a logical relationship between them. The contribution of this study is to theoretically analyze the plot of typical plural dramas such as "The Glory," organize the narrative characteristics and narrative grammar of this type of drama, and form a relatively standardized narrative structure. In the second half of this study, Gremas' symbolic square theory was introduced. According to the 'symbolic square theory', one of the story elements of "The Glory" (i.e., the protagonist, Dong-eun Moon) is assumed to be S1, and his antagonist, Park Yeon-jin, is assumed to be S2. S1 is an absolute confrontational relationship with S2, -S1 and S1 are contradictory but not necessarily an confrontational relationship, -S1 and -S2 are composed of an opposing relationship, and S2 and -S1 are composed of an auxiliary relationship. This theoretical model provides an in-depth analysis of the complex relationship between the characters in novels, movies, and TV series, making it easier to understand the deep meaning of the story. The analysis of the symbolic square model can clarify the story development and character relationship of the playbook, and on the other hand, it can also reveal the complexity of human nature and the helplessness of life. It is not the wonderful video that impresses people, but the social reality behind it. This inspires us to focus on the reality that the current movies and dramas are the way to succeed.
