This study aimed to investigate the relationship between the average daily caffeine intake of female college students and sleep. The study included 120 female college students from K University, and the data obtained from the questionnaire responses were analyzed. The results of the study are as follows:
First, less than 10% of the monthly allowance was spent on caffeine drinks (39.5%), while more than 21.8 had a BMI (34.4%).
Secondly, in the analysis of sleep and lifestyle, only the frequency difference between sleep time and 'breakfast' was found to be significant (Χ2=14.19). The cross-analysis of 'diversion' and 'sickness and stomach pain' also showed statistical significance (Χ2=9.15, Χ2=14.72). Sleep time and the consumption of instant coffee mix, soda (such as vita500 and caffeine drinks) also showed a significant association (Χ2=9.73, Χ2=9.59).
Thirdly, when examining the correlation between sleep and caffeine intake, a significant negative correlation between sleep time and instant coffee (r=-0.19, p=0.04). There was also a significant negative correlation between sleep time and tea drink intake (r=-0.21, p=0.02).
This study has important implications as it reveals differences in the effects of daily caffeine intake on the sleep of female college students. Additionally, it highlights the variation in awareness among female college students regarding the side effects of caffeine consumption. Based on the study's findings, limitations were identified, and suggestions for future research were proposed.
