3D printing is one of the mega-trend technologies of the fourth industrial revolution era, and its importance is increasing. Many countries around the world are adopting 3D printing in school education as well, however, 3D printer supply is still not enough in the front line school, and 3D printing education is only after-school education or one-off education by external organization. Considering the current 3D printing education situation, 3D modeling education should be preceded. 3D modeling is a key step in 3D printing and a core competence in creating 3D data in a computer virtual space, so it must be done in preparation for the 3D printing era. In this study, an educational program that applied 3D modeling software to the contents of upper grade curriculum is developed, and is conducted it to 6th grade students.
Through the study on the existing 3D printing and 3D modeling, STEAM education, design education and invention education program were developed and applied to elementary school students, and it was found that they had a significant influence on students' creative problem solving ability. However, the application of 3D modeling education program developed in the general school centered on convergence education or specific subjects has some difficulties in the curriculum and class management. The purpose of this study is to investigate whether the subject of learning was extracted from the contents of the upper grade curriculum, developed as a 3D modeling software application program, and applied to the elementary school students and had a significant influence on creative problem solving ability.
First, after analyzing various 3D modeling software and selecting applicable software for school education, a creative problem solving model (CPS) was selected as an application model by studying a teaching model for developing creative problem solving ability. Then, a program that extracts subjects and learning subjects that can be taught using 3D modeling software was developed and applied a class model in the content of the upper grade.
The developed program was applied to 25 students in the 6th grade of elementary school over 14 times. After that, paired t-test and self-evaluation were used to see if the program had a significant effect on creative problem solving ability. The results showed that the 3D modeling software education program had a significant effect on the students' creative problem solving ability.
