공공도서관 큐레이션 서비스를 위한 사서의 역량 인식에 관한 연구

국문 초록 (Abstract)

최근 우리 사회는 정보 과잉 시대가 지속되면서 공중에게 필요한 정보를 제공해야 하는 공공도서관에서는 이용자에게 불필요한 정보를 제거하고 필요로 하는 정보를 제공할 수 있도록 정보의 필터링 역할이 요구된다. 이에 공공도서관은 변화하는 사회 환경에 맞춰 큐레이션 서비스를 제공하기 위해 실제 서비스 제공자인 사서에 대해 큐레이션 서비스에 대한 인식과 큐레이션 서비스를 제공할 수 있는 역량이 필요하다.
이 연구에서는 공공도서관 큐레이션 서비스를 위한 사서의 역량 인식을 조사하고자 서울시 지자체 소속 공공도서관 사서를 대상으로 4가지 영역 28문항으로 구성한 설문을 실시하여 113명으로부터 응답을 받아 그 결과를 분석하였다.
분석 결과 공공도서관에서 큐레이션 서비스를 제공하기 위해서는 사서의 경력이 많을수록 역량 인식이 높게 나왔으며, 사서 자격 급수가 높을수록 서비스 역량 인식이 높게 나타났다. 그러나 사서의 직무는 큐레이션 서비스 역량 인식에 미치는 영향은 낮았지만, 큐레이션 서비스 제공에 있어서는 중요한 부분을 차지하고 있었다.
큐레이션 서비스는 사서들이 직접 정보를 분석하고, 가공하고, 평가하여 이용자들의 요구에 맞는 정보를 전달하는 것이다. 그리고 사서의 큐레이션 서비스 능력은 단기간의 직무교육으로 개발되는 것이 아니라 장기간 사서로서 근무하며 쌓은 노하우와 직무 교육, 정보 취급 능력 등에 의해 축적되고 발전되는 것이다. 그러므로 공공도서관 사서는 변화하는 사회 환경에 맞춰 이용자의 정보 욕구 해소와 적절한 정보 제공을 위해서 큐레이션 서비스에 대한 인식 개선과 제공 역량을 높이기 위하여 노력해야 할 것이다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

With an unending stream of information flooding in our society in recent years, public libraries, information providers for the public, are required to play a role as information monitors who delete information unnecessary for users and offer important information.
To offer curation services in accordance with the changing social environments, public libraries must help librarians, real service providers, develop the awareness of curation services and competences to provide curation services. Thus, this research study conducted a survey constituting 4 areas, 29 questions of those librarians in public libraries under the wing of Seoul Metropolitan Autonomous Body, about librarians' awareness and competences of curation services in public libraries. Through those replies from 113 respondents, the research findings are as follows.
The findings reveal that librarians possessing a high record have showed the high awareness and competences of curation services in public libraries, and the higher the level of qualification as librarians is, the higher the awareness of services and competences to provide services is. The duty as librarians has had low influences on the awareness and competences of curation services, but has put an important weight on curation services to provide.
The role of curation services is to analyze, process and evaluate directly information about librarians so that information fit for users' need could be delivered. And, the competences of curation services that librarians must have are not developed through short-term vocation education but are extended and enhanced based on accumulated know-how, vocation education and competences to handle information they have got to acquire while working as librarians for a long period of time. In this context, librarians in public libraries need to make efforts to improve the awareness and competences of curation services in order to meet users' needs of information and offer sufficient information to users, keeping up with the changing social environments.
