청소년의 사회적관계가 공동체의식에 미치는 영향 : 다문화수용성의 매개효과를 중심으로

Adolescents are living forming numerous social relations in everyday life. Researches have been actively conducted on social relations and sense of community in the individual dimension of the youth since the 2000s, however, the researches on the multidimensional social relations surrounding the youth or the multicultural acceptability as media can rarely be found.
Therefore, this study was carried out with an aim to elucidate whether receptivity to multiple culture contributed to promoting a sense of community between the social relationships and the sense of community with a focus on the impact of social relations of the youth on the sense of community. This research was to verify in what ways social relations and multicultural acceptability of the youth have an effect on the sense of community. To this end, this study proposed a research model taking social relations, multicultural acceptability, and sense of community as potential variables and verified the direct effects of social relations and multicultural acceptability of the youth and the mediating effect of multicultural acceptability.
In order to verify the research model presented in this study, researches were performed in 2013 in terms of the target youth, that is, 1,977 first year middle school students with the data of the 4th year of the fourth grade panel in the elementary school among the Korea Youth Panel Surveys. As for the technical statistical analysis and correlation analysis of research data, SPSS 19.0 was utilized, structural equation model was analyzed through AMOS 18.0, and a hypothesis about the causal relationships between the model's suitability and the variables were validated.
The main results of the study were as follows.
First, as a result of analysis of the measured model, the measured variables of social relation, multicultural acceptability, and sense of community were all found to measure the concepts at the statistically significant levels.
Second, the model suitability of the final model turned out to be so high that it was confirmed that the structural model represented the data well.
Third, as a result of validating the coefficient of each path of study model, four paths out of seven direct paths in total turned out to be statistically significant. Looking in detail, the social relations within school were found to have a static (+) influence on the multicultural acceptability and a sense of community, social relationships inside the community were found to have a static (+) influence on the sense of community, and lastly the multicultural acceptability was found to have a static (+) influence on the sense of community.
Fourth, one of three indirect paths which took the multicultural acceptability as a medium in the study model was significant. In other words, the multicultural acceptability was shown to mediate the influence of social relation on the sense of community of the youth inside school significantly.
The conclusions and implications of this study are as follows.
First, since the social relations of adolescents were found to act as very important factors that affected the sense of community, and cultural receptivity had a mediating effect on the relationship between social relationships and a sense of community inside school, the social relationships inside school also had a direct impact on the sense of community, however, it was also found to have an indirect effect on the sense of community through multicultural acceptability. In other words, it means the more positive social relationships inside school are, the higher the multicultural acceptability is, and the higher the multicultural acceptability, the better the sense of community. This means the possibility of thinking the promotion of the multicultural acceptability as a factor of enhancing a sense of community, and this study is significant in that it elicits the discussion on the impact of multicultural acceptability even if the researches to reinforce the sense of community can rarely be found for the present.
Second, the social relations within the school and the community showed a significant effect on the improved sense of community. Through these, it was revealed that the role of school and the community was important for the adolescents to grow into healthy young citizens. Therefore, this research can be utilized as an evidence material in establishing practical strategies for promoting school and sense of community using the social relations within school and community.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

청소년들은 일상생활 속에서 수많은 사회적관계를 맺으며 살아간다. 2000년대 이후 청소년의 개별차원의 사회적관계와 공동체의식에 대한 연구는 활발히 진행되었으나, 청소년을 둘러싼 다차원적인 사회적관계, 다문화수용성을 매개로 한 연구는 미미한 실정이다.
이에 본 연구는 청소년의 사회적관계가 공동체의식에 미치는 영향에 초점을 두고, 다문화수용성이 청소년의 사회적관계와 공동체의식의 사이에서 공동체의식 증진에 기여하는지를 밝히는데 목적을 두고 연구를 수행하였다. 청소년의 사회적관계와 다문화수용성이 어떠한 경로로 공동체의식에 영향을 미치는지 검증하고자 하였다. 이를 위하여 사회적관계, 다문화수용성, 공동체의식을 잠재변인으로 하는 연구모형을 제시하고 청소년의 사회적관계와 다문화수용성의 직접효과와 다문화수용성의 매개효과를 검증하였다.
본 연구에서 제시된 연구모형을 검증하기 위해 한국아동·청소년패널조사 중 초등학교 4학년 패널의 4차년도 자료, 즉 조사가 수행된 2013년 당시 중학교 1학년 1,977명을 대상으로 연구를 수행하였다. 연구 자료에 대한 기술적 통계분석, 상관분석은 SPSS 19.0을 활용하였고, AMOS 18.0을 통해 구조방정식 모형을 분석하고, 연구모형의 적합성과 변인들 간의 인과관계에 대한 가설을 검증하였다.
본 연구의 주요 분석결과는 다음과 같다.
첫째, 측정모형 분석결과 3가지 잠재변인인 사회적관계, 다문화수용성, 공동체의식의 측정변인들은 모두 통계적으로 유의미한 수준에서 개념을 측정한 것으로 확인되었다.
둘째, 최종모형의 모형적합도는 매우 높은 수준으로 나타나 구조모형이 자료를 잘 반영하고 있음이 확인되었다.
셋째, 연구모형의 각 경로계수를 검증한 결과 총 7개의 직접경로 중 4개의 경로가 통계적으로 유의미한 것으로 나타났다. 구체적으로 살펴보면, 학교 내 사회적관계는 다문화수용성과 공동체의식에 정적(+)영향을 미치는 것으로 확인되었으며, 지역사회 내 사회적관계는 공동체의식에 정적(+) 영향을 미치는 것으로 파악되었고, 다문화수용성은 공동체의식에 정적(+) 영향을 미치는 것을 알 수 있었다.
넷째, 연구모형에서 다문화수용성을 매개로 하는 간접경로 3개 중 1개의 경로가 유의미하였다. 즉, 청소년의 학교 내 사회적관계가 공동체의식에 미치는 영향을 다문화수용성이 유의미하게 매개하는 것으로 나타났다.
본 연구의 결론 및 함의는 다음과 같다.
첫째, 청소년의 학교 내 사회적관계가 공동체의식에 영향을 주는 매우 중요한 요인으로 작용하고 있음을 알 수 있었고, 다문화수용성은 학교 내 사회적관계와 공동체의식의 관계에서 매개효과를 가지고 있어, 학교 내 사회적관계가 공동체의식에 직접적인 영향을 미치기도 하지만, 다문화수용성을 통해 공동체의식에 간접적인 영향을 미치고 있음을 알 수 있다. 즉, 학교 내 사회적관계가 긍정적일수록 다문화수용성이 높아지고, 다문화수용성이 높아질수록 공동체의식이 향상됨을 의미한다. 이는 공동체의식의 발달을 강화하는 요인으로서 다문화수용성 증진을 생각해 볼 수 있으며, 현재 다문화수용성을 통해 공동체의식을 강화하는 연구가 거의 수행되지 않았으나 본 연구는 다문화수용성의 영향에 대한 논의를 이끌어 냈다는 점에서 의의가 있다.
둘째, 학교 및 지역사회 내 사회적관계가 공동체의식 향상에 유의미한 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 이를 통해 청소년이 건강한 시민으로 성장하는 데에는 학교 및 지역사회의 역할이 중요하다는 것을 알 수 있었다. 따라서 학교 및 지역사회 내 사회적관계를 활용한 공동체의식 증진을 위한 실천전략을 수립하는데 근거자료로 활용할 수 있다.
