헤테로토피아적 인공 자연 풍경의 표현 연구 : 본인 작품을 중심으로

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 논문은 현대 도시에서 헤테로토피아(Hétérotopie)로 기능하는 인공 자연과 인간과의 관계를 형상화한 본인 작품에 대한 연구로, 작품의 동기가 되는 장소인 도심 공원의 역사적, 시각적 특성을 이론적으로 밝혀 작품과 연관성을 살펴보고, 회화의 형식적 측면을 분석한다.
현대 도시는 개발과정에서 원시 자연을 파괴하고 그 자리에 건축물들을 세웠다. 그리고 공원 등의 인공 녹지를 조성해 상실한 자연 경관을 새롭게 제작하게 되었다. 도심 공원은 풍경화와 같은(picturesque) 자연에 대한 이상을 지향하게 설계되어, 현실에 없는 유토피아(Utopie)적 자연 경관에 대한 갈망을 도시 안에 구현시켰다. 즉, 공원은 도시 풍경과는 전혀 다른 경관을 보여주는, 도시 안에 있으면서도 도시와는 동떨어진 섬인 헤테로토피아의 공간이 되었다. 인간의 필요에 의하여 건립된 경관은 자연을 인위적으로 편집하여 그려 넣은 19세기의 픽처레스크한 풍경화와 닮아 있다. 이러한 새로운 자연은 원시 자연을 대체하여 현대인에게 익숙하고 자연스러운 풍경이 되었다.
본인의 작품은 조성된 도심의 녹지에서 여가를 즐기는 사람들과 그 풍경을 소재로 삼는다. 본인의 회화는 풍경을 지향하지만, 그 외양을 사실적으로 재현하는 것은 아니다. 주체가 작품으로 나타내려는 것은 현대 도시의 풍경이 인위적으로 조경되어 있다는 사실이며, 작품은 인공적으로 조성되어있는 현대 도시 풍경의 제작 과정과 그 시각적 특성을 표현한다. 그 방법은 자연을 암시하는 거친 붓 자국이 그대로 드러난 이미지와 인공 자연의 기호들이 화면에 동시에 배치되어진다. 이것은 프레임 속 계획에 따라 만들고 다듬어진 ‘새로운 자연’을 표현한다.
또한 본인의 작품에서는 채도가 높고 밝은 색채들이 도시인들이 공원에 기대하는 이상적인 행복감을 드러낸다. 헤테로토피아로 역할 하는 인공 자연은 작품에서 긍정적이고 유희적인 기호로 가득한 화면으로 표현된다. 그리고 인물 역시 헤테로토피아라는 주제에 귀속된 역할을 부여받고 화면에 배치된다. 본인은 회화 속 인물들이 행복의 기호로 가득한 프레임 안에서 헤테로토피아의 허구성을 대면하지만, 그것에 대항하지 못하는 모습으로 설정한다. 그러나 불가피하게 상실감과 불안 등의 감각이 인물의 표정 혹은 행위, 상황을 통해 그려진다. 본인의 회화는 이렇게 그림 안에 수동적으로 배치된 인물들의 패배감을 통하여 결과적으로 위장된 헤테로토피아와 개인의 관계를 보여준다.
본 연구는 위의 과정을 통해 현대의 도심 공원으로 대표되는 인공자연의 헤테로토피아적 특성과, 본인 작품에서 특징적으로 나타나는 기호와 색채, 배치, 인물 표현 등의 조형적인 특성을 내용과 연관하여 분류하고 분석한다. 따라서 현대인과 새로운 자연과의 관계 속에 내재된 소외의 감각을 고찰하고, 본인 회화의 내용과 형식의 깊은 이해를 통해 추후 발전 가능성을 도모하는데 그 목적이 있다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This thesis is a study on my work which embodies the relationship between human and artificial nature that works as Hétérotopie in modern city and it is to examine correlation with my work by theoretically clarifying historical and visual features of urban park which serves as a place of motivation for my work and to analyze formative aspects of painting.
Modern city has destroyed primitive nature in the process of its development and built structures in that space. And it comes to newly create artificial green area such as park for the lost natural landscape. Urban parks are designed to seek ideal for picturesque nature so that they realize a desire for Utopian natural landscape which does not exist in reality. Parks, in other words, have become heterotopian space that is an island remote from a city while being within one, displaying a totally different landscape from the cityscape. The landscape established for human needs resembles the 19th-century picturesque landscapes that put nature through artificial editing on it. This new kind of nature has substituted primitive nature and become familiar and natural scenery to modern people.
My work takes its material from people enjoying their leisure time in green space created at the heart of a city and its landscape. My painting is landscape-oriented but it is not to realistically reproduce its look. What I try to express in the work is a fact that urban city's view is artificially landscaped and the work expresses the process of creating an artificially established urban landscape and its visual features. As to its methodology, images with rough brush stroke that implies the nature and symbols of artificial nature are simultaneously arranged on the screen. This expresses 'new nature' which is made and trimmed in accordance with plans within a frame.
In addition, saturated and bright colors in my work show ideal happiness that modern people expect from parks. Artificial nature that works as Hétérotopie is depicted as a screen full of positive and amusing symbols. Figures are also arranged on the screen, being given a role that belongs to a theme of Hétérotopie. I organize my work in which figures in the painting are faced with fictiveness of Hétérotopie in a frame filled with symbols of happiness but they cannot fight against them. But inevitably, feelings like a sense of loss and anxiety are drawn through figure's look, act or circumstance. My painting shows the relationship between individual and Hétérotopie which is resultingly camouflaged through passively arranged figures' sense of defeat.
Through the aforementioned procedure, this study is to classify and analyze heterotopian features of artificial nature which is represented by modern urban parks and formative ones including symbols, colors, arrangement and expressions for figures that uniquely characterize my work in association with contents. This study, therefore, aims to examine senses of alienation inherent in the relationship between modern people and new nature and to seek future possibilities of my painting through profound understanding of contents and formative aspects.
