It is very important for kindergarten teachers to be satisfied with their job, since they can make a considerable affect on the educational quality and development of young children. When we recognize that the job stress of kindergarten teachers affect on their job satisfaction, we are simply to acknowledge the needs to investigate the factors of job stress and to seek some insight for improvement on the basis of analysis. Thus, I made it the purpose of this study to investigate the relationship between job stress and job satisfaction in kindergarten teachers.
To pursue the purpose, a questionnaire was designed and implemented for 200 teachers randomly selected from various public kindergartens of Gyeongbuk Province in Korea. 174 out of total 186 gathered copies were used for final analysis. The data were analyzed using SPSS package. The result is as following.
First, while present kindergarten teachers seem to feel a moderate degree of job stress (2.77<M<3.81) in relation with their professional work, there seems to be some difference along the age levels of their children. The stress level is higher in teachers of 4 or 5 year old age group than those of 3 year old age group. And the stress level is also higher in teachers of urban areas than those of rural areas.
Second, while present kindergarten teachers seem to get a moderate degree of satisfaction (2.55<M<3.56) in their work condition, their level of satisfaction is highest for their work but it is lowest for their work condition. And the satisfaction level in terms of their work is higher in the married than the unmarried. Meanwhile, in terms of human personnel, the satisfaction level is higher in teachers of rural areas than those of city areas. As for the income, teachers having more than 20 years experience seem to be most satisfied, while those having less than 10 years are least satisfied.
Third, the correlation between job stress and job satisfaction in kindergarten teachers appears to be lowly negative (r=-393). After regression analysis, it appears that job stress is the best factor for explaining job satisfaction, personnel stress is that for personnel satisfaction, income stress for income satisfaction, and interpersonal stress for interpersonal relationship, but as for the satisfaction with work condition, it is income stress that explains best.
