(Abstract)
This study aims to verify the mediating effect of resilience in a relation between university students’ parental attachment and adult attachment. Considering the questions, inspection on parental attachment, adult attachment, resilience and career decision making were performed with 404 university students in Daegu, Gyeongbuk and Gyeonggi. The inspection data was analyzed through Window SPSS 18.0.
the results of the study are as follows:
First, paternal attachment, maternal attachment, adult attachment, resilience and career decision making were all connected. Resilience had the highest correlation with career decision making as a variable. The higher resilience to overcome and get over difficult surroundings, the higher ability to overcome difficulties for career decision.
Second, it turns out there was the mediating effect between paternal attachment and career decision making, and between sub factors of resilience as well. It revealed that paternal attachment affected career decision making directly, and there were also indirect effects through resilience.
Third, when it comes to a relation between maternal attachment and career decision making, it discovered that there was the mediating effect of resilience, and of sub factors in resilience. It also found out that maternal attachment had a direct effect on career decision making, and there were indirect effect though resilience.
Fourth, as for a relation between adult attachment and career decision making, it showed mediating effect of resilience, and sub factors of resilience also had the mediating effect. Adult attachment had a direct effect on career decision making and there were indirect effects through resilience.
Thus, parental attachment and adult attachment influenced career decision making directly, and there were also indirect effects through resilience. As attachment has a positive effect on career decision making through resilience, attachment between parents and others is significant for important decision-making process to decide career. It also proves that improving resilience is required for effective and reasonable career decision making.
