In this study, an overall qualifications analysis and an analysis on the sub-criteria of professional qualification of daycare center directors according to their background variables were carried out. Such research result will provide meaningful information to the child care field through analyzing the current level of professionalism of the directors who are teaching and directing over the child care scenes of our country. In order to fulfill such purpose of the study, the following research problems were set.

In this study, answers of 72 directors of national and public daycare center, 69 directors of workplace daycare center, and 82 directors of private daycare center, which are 223 directors in total, were used as research materials. 5 level rating scale used in the research material questionnaire were scored. The questionnaire used in this study to investigate the actual condition of director's professionalism is the tool that Ji Sung Ae(2001) created to evaluate 'professional qualifications of daycare center's director' in her 'study on infant care center's director and his/her professional qualifications'. Frequency Analysis was carried out in order to examine general background of the directors, the research targets, and for comparison depending on the background variables of the directors, one way-Anova was performed. After one way-Anova was carried out, Scheffé was performed as posteriori tests. Empirical analysis was verified at 5% of significance level and SPSS WIN 21.0 program was used to analyze the statistical process.
The results of this study is as below.
First of all, examining the difference in director's professionalism depending on the type of daycare center, directors' relationship establishment ability with daycare teachers and leadership, operational know-how and technique of child care program, and public relations forming ability, among the sub-criteria of professionalism, of national and public and workplace daycare centers surpass those of private daycare centers, and it is statistically significant. Directors' basic technical ability of national and public daycare centers is higher than that of workplace daycare centers and private daycare centers, and it is statistically significant. Also, directors' symbolic ability of workplace daycare centers appears higher than that of private daycare centers and national and public daycare centers' directors show the highest ability, and it is statistically significant.
Secondly, examining the difference in director's professionalism depending on their age, the director's professionalism regarding their age is not statistically significant. However, concerning operational know-how and techniques of child care program among the sub-criteria of the director's professionalism, age 41-50 score higher than age over 50 and age 30-40, and it is statistically significant.
Thirdly, examining the difference in director's professionalism depending on their educational background, directors who graduated from 4 year colleges surpass those who graduated from 2,3 year colleges in relationship establishment ability with daycare teachers and leadership, operational know-how and techniques of child care program, public relations forming ability, and symbolic ability, among the sub-criteria of professionalism, and directors who is attending or has attended post-graduate school show the highest professionalism, and it is statistically significant. In addition, basic technical ability of 4 year college graduates surpasses that of 2,3 year college graduates, and it is statistically significant.
Forth, examining the difference in director's professionalism depending on their work experience, directors who have less than 5 years of experience show lower ability than the ones who are more experienced in basic technical ability-related professionalism among director's professionalism, and it is statistically significant. Also, concerning director's relationship establishment ability with daycare teachers and leadership, directors who have less than 5 years of experience show lower ability than the directors who have more experience than that, and it is statistically significant. Regarding public relations forming ability, the director's with less than 5 years experience has lower ability than the more experienced directors and directors with more than 15 years of experience show higher public relations forming ability than the directors with 5-15 years experience, and it is statistically significant. Directors who have less than 5 years experience show higher symbolic ability than directors with 5-10 years experience and more than 15 years experience, and it is statistically significant.
In conclusion, professionalism of daycare center directors depending on the type of daycare center, age of director, educational background and work experience of director is analyzed, and the directors of private and in-house daycare center and the directors who have lower level of education or shorter work experience show lower professionalism. In this regard, it is necessary to develop a special educational program for them and to encourage study and research. Also, training for the directors with short work experience has to be reinforced.
Through this study, the contents of professionalism of daycare center directors are reviewed and the actual condition was examined and analyzed to provide significant information to the field of child care. The result of this study can be utilized as base data in conducting research on the professionalism of directors who supervise and control the infant care scene and operate and manage the daycare center.
