The purpose of this study is to find out the effect of family function and self-efficiency on the retirement anxiety of middle- aged men.
This study set up the research questions as follows:
First, Is there difference in retirement anxiety of middle-aged men according to the demographic variables?
Second, How are the relationship between family function, self-efficiency and retirement anxiety of middle- aged men?
Third, What is the effect of family function on the retirement anxiety of middle- aged men?
Fourth, What is the effect of self-efficiency on the retirement anxiety of middle- aged men?
Fifth, What is the effect of family function and self-efficiency on the retirement anxiety of middle-aged men?
For the study, the research selected 334 middle-aged men who were working in S enterprise, professional or general small business in Busan, Ulsan, Gyung-nam, and Gyunggi-do province to find out the effect of family function and self-efficiency on retirement anxiety of middle-aged men.
To verify the research questions, basic statistics and correlation analysis, simple regression analysis, multiple regression analysis, hierarchical regression analyzes for each variable were conducted by using the SPSS 20.0 program.
The results of this study are as follows;
First, Differences in retirement anxiety of middle-aged men according to demographic variables showed significant differences in the demographic.
Second, The relationship between family function, self-efficacy and middle-aged men showed significant correlations.
The entire family function and entire retirement anxiety was negatively correlated while self-efficacy was negatively correlated with retirement anxiety.
Third, The effect of family function on the retirement anxiety of middle-aged men showed significant results.
However, the sub-factors of family function like family cohesion and family adaptability did not show a significant effect on the retirement anxiety.
Fourth, General self-efficacy and social self-efficacy of the two sub-domain self-efficacy showed a statistically significant effect on retirement anxiety.
The entire self-efficacy showed a statistically significant effect on retirement anxiety.
Fifth, The effect of family function and self-efficacy of middle-aged men on the retirement anxiety showed statistically significant influence.
However, by putting family function and self-efficacy as a predictors and retirement anxiety as compliance factors, only self-efficacy showed statistically significant influence.
The findings of this study show that family function effects on retirement anxiety of middle-aged men but it can be reduced by using self-efficacy rather than family function. Therefore, this study would be significant since it confirmed that middle-aged men can overcome or minimize retirement anxiety by promoting family relationships and self-efficacy before retirement. Since the studies of retirement anxiety and psychological emotional variables on middle-aged men are insufficient, further studies on other psychological variables should be proceed.
