학습부진 대학생의 실태 및 멘토링 프로그램의 효과 분석

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 학습부진을 겪고 있는 학생의 실태를 파악하고, 효과적인 지원 방안을 모색하는데 목적이 있었다. 이를 위하여 학과 조교와 학사경고 학생을 대상으로 학습부진의 원인과 특성, 인식을 조사하고, 학습부진 학생을 대상으로 운영한 멘토링 프로그램의 효과를 확인하였다.
학사경고 학생을 대상으로 조사한 학습부진 실태를 분석한 결과는 다음의 여섯 가지로 정리되었다. 첫째, 기초 지식이 부족하여 수업을 어려워하였다. 둘째, 수업 중 활동에 대체로 수동적인 학습 태도를 보였다. 셋째, 본인의 역량과 학습 의지가 부족하기 때문에 공부에 어려움을 겪는 것으로 인식되었다. 넷째, 대학 생활에 대한 고민은 주로 ‘전공’ 때문이었다. 다섯째, 고민을 상담할 수 있는 주변인은 매우 제한적이었다. 여섯째, 학사경고 학생들은 전공 이해도 향상과 여건 조성에 대한 지원이 가장 필요하다고 생각하였다.
학습부진 학생을 대상으로 한 멘토링 프로그램의 효과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 학업 성취도가 이전 학기에 비하여 통계적으로 유의하게 향상되었다. 둘째, 학사경고 학생들은 모두 학사경고를 벗어났다. 셋째, 멘티들에게 자신감과 만족감을 부여하였다.
이 결과를 바탕으로 학습부진 대학생을 위한 지원 방안으로 다음 세 가지 가 제안되었다. 첫째, 전공-진로 이해와 대학 생활 목표 설정 프로그램, 학습동기 부여 및 학습 습관·생활 관리 프로그램이 필요하다. 둘째, 지도교수와 학과, 대학 차원에서 학습부진 학생에게 다가가는 상담과 지원이 필요하다. 셋째, 학습 환경 및 여건 조성과 관련하여 장학 및 교내 근로장학을 확대하고, 장기적으로는 기숙사 등 교내 정주여건을 확대하여야 한다.
연구 결과를 통하여 학습부진 학생이 기초 실력을 갖출 수 있도록 체계적으로 지원하고, 충분한 상담과 환경·여건을 조성하여야 한다는 결론을 도출하였다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study was intended to find conditions under which underachieving students lie and seek for effective support plan. For this, survey was carried out targeting teaching assistants of the department and students placed on academic probation to find the real condition and cause of underachieving students. Also This survey was intended to check the effect of mentoring program which is running for underachieving students.
The results of survey to the students placed on academic probation were summarized as follows: First, students had difficulty in understanding in class because of the lack of their basic knowledge. Second, students had passive attitude during the class. Third, because of their lack of learning motivation and ability, students had difficulties in studying. Forth, the biggest anxiety in life of university is the major. Fifth, human resources who can talk about the worries with students are limited. Sixth, students who got under academic probation thought they need support to raise their comprehension abilities and to create supportive environment.
Effects of the mentoring program for underachieving students are as follows: First, academic achievement has been statistically improved compared to previous semester. Second, students placed on academic probation got off the academic probation. Third, the program gave mentees satisfaction and confidence.
From the result of the study, following plans for underachieving students were suggested; First, the programs that help to understand major, career, school life goal, motivation, and manage their study habit are needed. Second, academic adviser, department and university should not only support underachieving students but also counsel the students. Third, it is better to expand the scholarship and working scholarship to make better learning environment. For the long term, It is better to expand residence condition such as dormitory.
