In this study, various design factors that could give influences on the color uniformity of a LED package were numerically analyzed by Monte Carlo ray-tracing simulation, and a surface texture on a LED array package was introduced and optimized in order to improve its color uniformity.
In order to obtain high color uniformity of white LED package based on phosphor, recent studies have focused on optimization of the structure of phosphor layer and its coating method. However, various design factors of the LED package could influence its optical properties, and thus the optimization of phosphor and chip structure only is not a proper approach to make LED package having high color uniformity. In this study, effect of phosphor design on the commercial LED package, chip size, chip type, and encapsulation property was simulated by Monte carlo ray-tracing simulation to numerically analyze effect of color uniformity on these design factors.
Based on this result, LED array package having textures onto its surface which had been proposed for enhancing efficiency was numerically analyzed by ray-tracing simulation, in order to understand variation of color distribution and luminous efficacy of the LED array package according to texture structure, and then optimized model was designed.
