This study analyzed marketing strategy-oriented viewing attitude and satisfaction with dance performance in order to activate dance performance. The purpose of this study was to develop dance performance into a more familiar genre of art to audience, improve audience’s satisfaction and viewing attitude, and increase the number of audience. For this, study was carried out as follows: Study methods used in this study were the establishment of general hypotheses on marketing strategy-oriented viewing attitude and satisfaction with dance performance and then carrying out a questionnaire survey of 189 audience (45 men, 23.8% and 144 women, 76.2% in their 14~63 years of age; mean age = 26.41 years) who visited the little theater of Busan Cultural Center in Busan Metropolitan City to view dance performance. And the questionnaire was distributed and collected by the author’s personal visiting to the site. Detailed items of the questionnaire were established according to such marketing mix strategies as place, product, promotion and price. The results of the questionnaire survey were examined according to audience’s gender, age and whether or not majoring dance, and then tested the hypotheses on marketing strategy-oriented viewing attitude and satisfaction with dance performance. Study findings are as follows: First, marketing strategy had significant influence upon the attitude toward dance performance. In detail, product and promotion-related marketing strategies had significant influence upon the attitude toward dance performance, except place and price-related marketing strategies. This finding implies the fact that when audience is exposed to marketing strategies more often and experiences promotion-related marketing strategies more frequently, their attitude toward dance performance becomes more positive. The explanation power for product and promotion strategies and attitude toward dance performance was higher as well. Therefore, <study hypothesis 1-2> ‘product-related marketing strategy will have influence upon the attitude toward dance performance’ and <study hypothesis 1-3> ‘promotion-related marketing strategy will have influence upon the attitude toward dance performance’ were accepted.
Second, marketing strategies had influence upon the satisfaction with dance performance. Among the four marketing strategies, only the product-related strategy had influence upon the satisfaction with dance performance. This finding implies the fact that when audience is exposed to product-related marketing strategies more often, their satisfaction with dance performance is higher. This finding verifies the fact that in order to increase the satisfaction with dance performance, it is necessary to work out product-related marketing strategy. Therefore, <study hypothesis 2-2> ‘product-related marketing strategy will have influence upon the satisfaction with dance performance’ was accepted. However, place, promotion and price-related strategies had no significant influence upon the satisfaction with dance performance.
Third, among the marketing strategy factors that having influence upon the satisfaction with dance performance the moderating effect of age did not exist.
Fourth, the moderating effect of age was significant in the influence of marketing strategies upon the satisfaction with dance performance. Therefore, <study hypothesis 4> ‘the moderating effect of age will be presented in the influence of marketing strategies upon the satisfaction with dance performance’ was partially accepted. Fifth, audience was exposed to place-related strategy more frequently, their level of attitude became higher. This tendency was more outstandingly presented in majors than in non-majors. However, the mediating effect of majoring was not found in the relationship between product, promotion and price and attitude. Therefore, <study hypothesis 5> ‘the moderating effect of majoring will be presented in the influence of marketing strategy upon the attitude toward dance performance’ was partially accepted. Sixth, audience was exposed to promotion strategy more often, their level of satisfaction was higher. This tendency was more outstandingly presented in non-majors than in majors. This finding verifies the fact that the moderating effect of majoring exists in the relationship between promotion strategy and satisfaction. As for place and price, the moderating effect of majoring upon satisfaction was not found. Therefore, <study hypothesis 6> ‘the moderating effect of majoring will be presented in the influence of marketing strategy upon the satisfaction with dance performance’ was partially accepted. Based on study findings, it is necessary to discard the prejudice that dance performance is difficult to understand and then develop, from the audience’s perspectives, efficient marketing strategies that are appropriate for audience in their accepting dance performance familiarly, thus increasing the public’s accessibility to dance performance. When audience’s viewing attitude improves, the number of audience increases as well and this will be a foundation of activation of dance performance and its artistic improvement.
