글 없는 그림책을 활용한 수학 탐구활동이 유아의 수학개념 및 언어 표현력에 미치는 영향

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구의 목적은 글 없는 그림책을 활용한 수학탐구활동이 유아의 수학개념과 언어표현력에 미치는 영향을 알아보기 위함이다. 이를 통해 유아 수학교육을 위해 활용되는 문학 매체 중 글 없는 그림책의 활용 방안에 대해 도움을 주고 유아교육 현장에서 글 없는 그림책을 활용할 수 있는 다양한 방법을 제시하고자 한다. 더불어 글 없는 그림책을 활용한 수학탐구활동이 유아의 수학개념 뿐만 아니라 언어표현력에도 어떠한 영향을 미치는지 살펴보아 유아 수학 및 언어 발달을 위한 교수방법의 기초 자료를 제공하고자 한다. 이와 같은 목적에 따라 연구문제를 다음과 같이 설정 하였다.
1. 글 없는 그림책을 활용한 수학탐구활동이 유아의 수학개념에 어떠한 영향을 미칠 것인가?
2. 글 없는 그림책을 활용한 수학탐구활동이 유아의 언어표현력에 어떠한 영향을 미칠 것인가?
본 연구의 대상은 서울시 강동구에 위치한 Y유치원 2학급의 만5세 유아 52명을 대상으로 하였고, 실험처치는 총 8주 동안 주 2회에 걸쳐 총 16회 실시하였다.
실험집단 유아들은 글 없는 그림책을 활용한 수학탐구활동을 실시하였고, 비교집단의 유아들은 실험집단과 동일한 글 없는 그림책을 활용하여 수학탐구활동은 실시하지 않고 일반적인 글 없는 그림책 감상방법으로 활동을 실시하였다.
본 연구의 측정도구는 ‘유아그림수학능력검사’ 와 그림 자료를 활용한 ‘언어표현력검사’를 사용하였으며, 검사결과는 spss16.0통계프로그램으로 전산처리 후 t검증을 실시하였다.
본 연구의 결과는 다음과 같다.
첫째, 글 없는 그림책을 활용한 수학탐구활동에 참여한 유아는 그렇지 않은 유아들보다 수학개념의 모든 하위 개념(대수, 수와 연산, 기하, 측정)이 더 유의하게 증진되었다.
둘째, 글 없는 그림책을 활용한 수학탐구활동에 참여한 유아는 그렇지 않은 유아들보다 언어표현력의 모든 하위 개념(단어 수, 문장 수, 묘사 단어 수, 어휘수준, 문장수준, 이야기구조 수준)이 더 유의하게 증진되었다.
이상의 결과로 볼 때, 글 없는 그림책을 활용한 수학탐구활동은 유아들에게 수학에 대한 개념과 언어표현력을 향상하는데 효과적이라고 할 수 있다.
따라서 유아교육 현장에서 글 없는 그림책을 활용한 다양한 활동은 적극 권장되어야 하며 특히 수학탐구활동으로의 활용은 유아의 수학개념과 더불어 언어표현력의 향상도 가져오는 통합적인 방법으로 활용될 수 있음을 시사해 준다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of math inquiry activities on mathematical concepts and language expression using wordless picture books. This study intends to expand the method of math activities using children’s literature and provide various use of wordless books in the classroom. This study searched not only children’s mathematical concepts but also language expression skill through wordless picture books so that it could enhance the development of math and language curriculum strategy.

The target of this study consisted of 52 of 5-year-olds children in two different classroom from Y kindergarten in Seoul city. The activities were implemented twice a week for 8 weeks; 16 activities in total. The intervention group had math inquiry activities using wordless picture books in the classroom during the experiment. The control group had read wordless picture books without math inquiry activities.
‘Pictorial Math Ability Test for Young Children’ and ‘Language Expression Skill Test’ were used to measure the results. The result data was processed with SPSS 16.0 and t-test.
Firstly, the result shows that math inquiry activities using wordless picture books affected positively in most of the mathematical concepts including Numbers and operations, algebra and data analysis, geometry, and measurement.
Secondly, the result shows that math inquiry activities using wordless picture books affected positively in most of the language expression skill including quantity of words, quantity of sentences, quantity of descriptive words, levels of vocabulary, quality of sentence, and levels of story structure.
According to the results of this study, math inquiry activities using wordless picture book has proved to be effective for the development of children’s mathematical concepts and language expression skills. It also supports various use of wordless picture books in the classroom and the inclusive activities such as math and language.
