The aim of this study is to provide base data for director’s advisable Emotional Leadership that can improve teacher’s occupational satisfaction in childcare centers by investigating the influence of the emotional leadership on the occupational satisfaction.
Research questions for the above aim include:
How the teachers are aware of director’s emotional leadership; How the teachers are satisfied with their job; and How the teachers think the relation between director’s emotional leadership and teacher’s occupational satisfaction.
A total of 277 child care teachers working in Geoje-si, Gyeonsangnam-do participated in this study. The tool used in this research to measure director’s emotional leadership is the questionnaire made by Choi, Seok-Ki (2009), and the questionnaire made by No, Jong-Hee (2001) was used to measure teacher’s occupational satisfaction. The statistical program ‘SPSS 14.0’ was used to analyze the collected data together with Scheffe method, multiple comparison method, correlation analysis and regression analysis.
Outcomes of the study are as follows;
Firstly, it was shown that child care teachers were aware of director’s emotional leadership above average. With variation in different types of child care centers, teachers in public child care centers were highly aware of the emotional leadership. On the other hand, social cognition of the leadership was shown lower.
Secondly, the survey indicated that child care teachers were satisfied with their job above average. However, they were unsatisfied with compensatory relationship and professionalism in particular.
Lastly, analyzed result of teacher’s cognition on the relation between director’s emotional leadership and teacher’s occupational satisfaction showed that the director’s social capital as a component of emotional leadership the most significantly influences the teacher’s occupational satisfaction.
