종교성향이 외상 후 성장에 미치는 영향 : 삶의 의미를 매개 변인으로 = The Effect of Religious Orientation on Posttraumatic Growth : Meaning in Life as a Mediating Variable

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 종교성향이 외상 후 성장에 영향을 미치는지 살펴보고, 이 과정에서 삶의 의미의 두 하위요인인 의미추구, 의미발견의 매개효과를 확인하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 서울, 경기, 대구 지역에 거주하는 20세 이상 기독교 신자 575명을 대상으로 종교성향, 외상 후 성장, 삶의 의미를 측정하였고, 구조방정식 모형을 적용하여 분석하였다.
연구 결과, 첫째, 외재적 종교성향과 외상 후 성장과의 관계에서 의미추구는 외상 후 성장을 예측하지 못하는 것으로 나타났고, 의미발견을 통해서는 부적 매개효과가 나타났다. 의미추구와 의미발견의 순차적인 매개경로를 통해서는 외상 후 성장을 예측하지 못하는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 내재적 종교성향과 외상 후 성장과의 관계에서 의미추구와 의미발견은 각각 부분 매개효과가 검증되었다. 그리고 의미추구와 의미발견 간의 순차적인 매개경로를 통해서도 매개효과가 검증되었다. 이는 단순히 종교를 가지고 있다는 점이 아니라 종교가 자신의 삶에 내면화되고 종교적인 신념과 조화를 이루어 나가는 내재적 종교성향을 취할수록 의미추구와 의미발견을 통해 더 많은 외상 후 성장을 보고한다는 것이다.
이러한 연구결과는 종교성향에 따라 외상 후 성장에 이르는 과정에서 삶의 의미의 두 하위요인인 의미추구, 의미발견, 그리고 의미추구가 의미발견으로 이어지는 과정이 각각 독립적으로 성장을 경험할 수 있다는 것을 시사한다. 이와 같은 연구 결과를 바탕으로 상담실제에 대한 시사점 및 연구의 제한점을 논의하였다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The purpose of this study is to test the impact of the religious orientation on the post-traumatic growth and to confirm the mediated effect of both the search for the meaning and the presence of the meaning which are the levels of the meaning in life. In the present study, 575 christians at least 20 years old in Seoul, Gyeonggi and Daegu participate and complete the battery of measures including a Religious orientation subscale, a Meaning in Life Questionnaire and a Post-traumatic Growth Inventory. The test are conducted using a Structural Equation Modeling(SEM).
The results of the current study are followed: first, the search for meaning does not predict the post-traumatic growth in relation with the extrinsic religious orientation. Furthermore there’s a negatively mediator effect in the presence of meaning. The results show that it does not predict the post-traumatic growth through the sequential mediated pathway between the search for meaning and the presence of meaning; second, each of the search for meaning and the presence of meaning predicts a partially mediating effect on the relation with the intrinsic religious orientation and the post-traumatic growth. It shows that they don’t simply have a religion and that the more they have an intrinsic religious orientation harmonized with the religious belief, the more they experience a post-traumatic growth.
Consistent with the prediction of current study, this research shows that each of the search for the meaning and the presence of the meaning which are the levels of the meaning in life predicts a growth in life. Finally, on the basis of the results there are discussions including the practical value in the counseling and the potential limits of the current study.
