This study investigates longitudinally the effect of socioeconomic activity on the quality of life of the middle-aged and aged by gender and age. Among the 1~3 rd(2006, 2008, 2010) preliminary survey data of KLoSA, the data of 6,854 of older than 45 years of age(four groups : 1,552 of middle-aged men, 1,451 of aged men, 1,914 of middle-aged women, 1,937 of aged women) was used to analyze, which has no missing values. Data was analyzed by panel regression method.
According to research results, the aged women group showed the lowest quality of life. Among economic activity, a regular work and a regular work maintenance had a strong positive relation with improving the quality of life for middle-aged men. Among social activity, participation of political/civil/interest group was related to higher levels of quality of life of middle-aged men and meeting friends, relatives or neighbors in person was related to higher levels of quality of life of other groups. Among health status, subjective health status was related to higher levels of quality of life of four groups and depression was related to lower levels of quality of life of middle-aged and aged women. Spouse was an influential variable to the quality of life of the middle-aged.
Based on these results, this study mentioned limitations of this research and offered suggestions for the subsequent research.
