The purpose of this study was to investigate special education teacher's awareness and support plans for instructional adaptation for students with disabilities. The questionnaire consisting of 29 questions was divided into five parts: teaching environments, teaching group, teaching contents, teaching methods and evaluation contents and methods. 287 special education teachers participated in this study. The results of this study were as follows: (a) The special class teachers highly recognized the high necessity of instructional adaptation in all teaching environments, teaching group, teaching contents, teaching methods and evaluation contents and methods, but the actual degree of support did not fill the need. Thus, it was necessary to prepare various conditions for instructional adaptation to get ready in the field. (b) In the field, the support materials of inclusive class appropriate for the characteristics of individual children with disorders so as to execute instructional adaptation were lacking, and specific guidelines for supporting instructional adaptation, too was lacking. In addition, most special education teachers recognized that their cooperation and communication with teachers in charge of inclusive classes as a significant part of instructional adaptation; however, in reality, which was not carried out well. Therefore, it was necessary to develop the practical materials needed for instructional adaptation and to provide specific guidelines. In addition, it was necessary to make appropriate support individual students with disabilities through their cooperation and communication with teachers in charge of inclusive classes.
