유아의 배려행동에 영향을 미치는 가정환경 관련 변인들의 구조적 관계 : 가족건강성, 모자상호작용, 가정환경자극을 중심으로

The modern society is suffering from social conflict and exclusion problems caused by moral disinterestedness, selfishness, severance between people and alienation. Further, this is leading to problems in community of the society over individual problem. Contemplation on ‘altruism’ and ‘morality’, which are for harmonization of the society, is required especially for the society with fierce competition. Such elements are essentials for and individual to set healthy social relationship and are cores by which education of humanism pursue. Accordingly, higher importances would be put on altruism and solicitude.
Solicitude maybe the ultimate reality of life and represents existence of human. Further, this includes sympathy, appropriate knowledge for understanding the others and active behavior for practice the knowledge. Therefore, a person needs to learn how to practice solicitude felt by emotion through recognition of the idea through feedback of the virtuous circle from early childhood.
However, there have been variety of preceding studies carried out on development of sociality and pro-social behavior of children but the caring behavior of them yet. Especially, there have been very few of studies conducted on the factors affect caring behavior of children. This paper, in this light, has focused on the variables which affect caring behavior of early childhood. Among them, the most important element should be the influence of home environment for improving comprehensive sociability including caring behavior. Therefore, we have focused on the influences of variables related to home environment on caring behavior of early childhood.
Accordingly, this paper suggests structural equation model which takes in to account family strongness, mother-child interaction and stimulated home environment which are expected to affect such behavior to examine the causal relationships between the selected variables and this is to figure out educational approach for child caring education centers and home to improve children’s caring behavior.
In doing so, the correlations and structural model between family strongness, mother-child interaction, stimulated home environment and caring behavior of 568 children those who are between 4~5 years old and go to nursery (kindergarten) in Seoul and Gyeonggi-do have been analyzed. Through this, we have found the influences of family strongness, mother-child interaction, stimulated home environment on caring behavior of children. The results can be summarized as follows.
Firstly, the family strongness, among the other variables, has been found to affect caring behavior of children mostly. Therefore, a child from strong family is more likely to be more solicitude in the society. Accordingly, it would be important to improve the overall family strongness including positive communication, ties between the family members, capability of the family to sort out a problem together, and sharing values and goals.
Secondly, it has been found that a child from family with good mother-child interaction and good quality of stimulated home environment has been found to show better caring behavior. Therefore, there needs to be positive interaction with mother and efforts to reduce negative interaction along with improvements in both physical and psychological home environments.
Thirdly, family strongness has been found to affect directly and indirectly the children's caring behavior through mother-child interaction and stimulated home environment. Especially, the mother-child interaction and stimulated home environment have been found to have significant level of positive influence on such behavior. Therefore, family strongness can be seen as the basis which affect overall quality of parent-child relationship. Accordingly, efforts from all members of the family, quality improvement of family strongness and demonstration of the family members including parents on caring behavior for education for children on such behavior.
Finally, there needs to be various programs developed taking into account the variables which affect caring behavior of early childhood by utilizing improvement mechanism for such behavior of children which have been found from this research.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

현대사회는 도덕적 무관심과 이기주의, 서로간의 단절과 소외 등으로 인한 사회적 갈등과 배제의 문제로 몸살을 앓고 있으며, 이는 개인의 문제를 넘어 사회공동체의 문제로까지 이어지고 있다. 경쟁이 격화되는 사회일수록 서로가 함께 잘 살아갈 수 있는 ‘이타성’과 ‘도덕성’이 어떻게 발달하는지에 대한 통찰이 절실히 요구된다. 이러한 이타성과 도덕성의 함양은 한 개인이 건강한 사회적 관계를 이루기 위해서 반드시 필요한 덕목이며, 인성교육이 추구하는 핵심적인 가치이기도 하다. 따라서 이타성과 배려의 중요성은 점점 더 부각될 것으로 보인다.
배려는 인간의 궁극적인 삶의 실재이자 인간의 존재성을 드러내는 것이며 상대방의 처지나 입장에서 걱정하고 염려하는 감정이입, 정서적 태도와 더불어 배려하는 데 필요한 적절한 지식과 이를 실천으로 옮기는 적극적인 행동도 포함한다. 따라서 배려행동을 잘 실천하기 위해서는 배려의 필요를 인식한 ‘감정’이 ‘사고’의 인지적 과정을 통해서 ‘행동’으로 나타나도록 만드는 일련의 과정이 피드백 되어 동기를 강화시켜주는 선순환 체계가 유아기부터 각 개인에게 만들어져야 한다.
그러나 지금까지의 선행연구에서는 유아기의 사회성 발달이나 친사회적 행동에 관한 연구가 활발하게 수행되어 온 반면, 유아기의 배려교육에 관한 연구는 아직 활발하지 않았다. 특히, 유아의 배려행동에 관련된 영향요인들을 규명하기 위한 연구는 매우 부족한 실정이다. 이에 따라 본 연구에서는 유아의 배려행동에 영향을 미치게 될 것으로 예상되는 변인들에 관한 연구에 초점을 두었다. 그 중에서도 유아의 배려행동을 포함한 포괄적인 사회성 증진을 위해서 가정환경의 영향이 1차적으로 중요한 요소로 다루어져야 하기 때문에 가정환경에 관련된 변인들을 중심으로 유아의 배려행동에 대한 영향을 살펴보았다.
따라서 본 연구에서는 이러한 배려행동에 영향을 미칠 것으로 예상되는 가정환경으로부터의 영향 요인인 가족건강성, 모자상호작용, 가정환경자극을 고려한 구조방정식모형(structural equation model)을 제시함으로써 선정된 변인들 간의 인과적 관계를 설명하고자 하며, 이를 통해 유아의 배려행동을 증진시키기 위해서 가정과 유아교육기관에서 어떠한 교육적 접근이 필요한지를 도출하여 제시하는 것이 본 연구의 목적이다.
이러한 연구의 목적에 따라서, 본 연구는 서울·경기 지역에 위치한 어린이집(유치원)에 재원중인 만 4~5세 유아 568명을 대상으로 가족건강성, 모자상호작용, 가정환경자극과 유아의 배려행동 간의 상관관계 및 구조모형을 분석하였다. 이를 통해 가족건강성과 모자상호작용 및 가정환경자극이 유아의 배려행동에 영향을 미치는 것을 확인하였고, 본 연구의 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다.
첫째, 유아의 배려행동에 영향을 미치는 주요 변인들 중에서 가족의 건강성이 가장 큰 인과관계를 갖는 것으로 확인되었다. 그러므로 가족의 건강성이 양호한 가정의 유아가 이를 바탕으로 타인과의 사회적 관계에서 유능하게 배려적인 행동을 잘 발휘하게 될 것임을 알 수 있다. 따라서 가족원간의 유대의식과 긍정적인 의사소통, 가족원이 함께 문제를 해결하는 능력, 그리고 가족의 가치관과 목표를 함께 공유하는 등 가족의 전반적인 건강성을 높이기 위해서 노력하는 것이 매우 중요하다.
둘째, 모자상호작용이 긍정적으로 잘 이루어지고 양호한 질적 가정환경자극이 제공되는 가정의 유아가 배려행동을 더 잘 발휘한다는 것이 확인되었다. 그러므로 어머니의 긍정적인 상호작용을 높이고 부정적인 상호작용을 줄일 수 있는 노력과 함께 가정의 물리적 환경과 심리적 환경을 모두 개선하기 위해 노력함으로써 유아의 배려행동을 길러 줄 수 있다는 인식을 가질 필요가 있다.
셋째, 가족건강성이 유아의 배려행동에 직접적인 영향을 미칠뿐만 아니라 모자상호작용과 가정환경자극을 매개로 하여 간접적인 영향을 미친다는 것이 확인되었다. 특히 모자상호작용과 가정환경자극에 대한 가족건강성의 직접적인 정적 영향력이 매우 크게 나타나고 있어서 가족건강성이 유아의 제 발달에 영향을 미치는 부모-자녀 관계의 전반적인 질적 수준에 중요한 기저요인이 된다는 것을 알 수 있다. 따라서 유아의 배려교육에 있어서 가족 구성원 전체의 노력과 가족관계의 질적인 건강성 향상, 그리고 부모 등 가족 모두의 배려행동 실천의 노력이 요구된다.
본 연구의 결과로 확인된 유아의 배려행동 증진방안과 함께 다양한 영향 변인들에 관한 후속연구들이 수행되어 이를 종합적으로 고려한 다양한 유아기 배려증진 프로그램의 개발과 활용이 유아교육현장에서 이루어지게 될 것을 기대한다.
