The purpose of this study is to analyze and identify the decision-making factors on major, satisfaction of major, and stress in the employment-seeking process, and to provide preliminary data applicable to establish the identity of the physical education and related departments and to henceforth relieve the degree of stress in the employment-seeking process for students of physical education and related departments. For the study, the survey was conducted on a total of 633 students in sophomore through senior years, except freshman, who were attending eight departments of physical education and related departments in 2013, affiliated to a total six universities made up of 4 four-year universities and 2 two-year colleges located in B metro-city and G province. Collected data of questionnaires were analyzed in accordance with the object of this study by using the SPSS/PC Window V18.0 program, both factor analysis test and reliability analysis test were conducted to evaluate validity and credibility of the questionnaires, and a frequency analysis test was conducted to assess demographic characteristics of students of physical education and related departments. Next, a cross analysis test was implemented to analyze student’s decision-making factors in major and then Cronbach's α coefficient was computed. In order to verify the distinction of both satisfaction of major and the degree of stress in the employment-seeking process among the groups of physical education and related department students, Independent samples t-test and One-way ANOVA were conducted. And, for a post verification test, the Scheffe method was implemented.
From the study, the following results are derived:
First, for decision-making factors on major amongst physical education and related departments students, there was no significant difference in either gender or grades, but there was difference (p<.05) in major type.
Second, for satisfaction of major amongst physical education and related departments students, there was significant difference in gender within all subordinate factors of perception satisfaction (p<.001), general satisfaction (p<.001), curriculum satisfaction (p<.001), and relation satisfaction (p<.001). Male students demonstrated a higher degree of major satisfaction than female students. There was no significant difference of major satisfaction in the grades. There was significant difference of major satisfaction in the major types within all subordinate factors of perception satisfaction (p<.001), general satisfaction (p<.001), curriculum satisfaction (p<.001), and relation satisfaction (p<.001). Following with a post verification test, students of the PE department of teaching showed a higher degree of major satisfaction than students of the general PE department or students of the special PE department within all subordinate factors of perception satisfaction, general satisfaction, and curriculum satisfaction. Within subordinate factors of relation satisfaction, both students of the PE department of teaching and students of the general PE department displayed higher degree of major satisfaction than students of the special PE department.
Third, within the stress in the employment-seeking process for physical education and related department students, there showed no significant difference in gender. There was a significant difference (p<.05) in grade, so with the result of the post verification test, students in their junior year showed a higher level of stress in the employment-seeking process than students in their sophomore year. There was a significant difference (p<.001) in major type. So, with the result of the post verification test, both students of the general PE department and students of the special PE department showed a higher degree of stress in the employment-seeking process than the students of the PE department of teaching.
