This research has its object in examining how positive psychological capital affects suicidal ideation. For this, change in suicidal ideation based on demographic change in environment and the relationship between the positive psychological capital and suicidal ideation were examined. Finally, the effect of suicidal ideation by positive psychological capital was researched. The results are as follows.
First, the results of difference in suicidal ideation based on demographic change in environment are as follows. It was seen that there was a meaningful difference in suicidal ideation depending on gender and that female students had higher chance of having suicidal ideation. Also, depending on gender, significant differences among the lower domain of suicidal ideation such as reason for dying, interest for death, and thoughts of dying were shown. No significance was shown for suicidal ideation and lower domain of suicidal ideation such as reason for dying, interest for death, and thoughts of dying depending on school classes. No significance was shown for suicidal ideation and interest in death and thoughts of dying of the lower domain of suicidal ideation based on grades, but significant difference was shown for the reason for dying in the lower domain of suicidal ideation based on grades. Subjects who ranked lower in class showed higher reasons for dying than those who ranked middle in class. No significance was shown for suicidal ideation and lower domain of suicidal ideation such as reason for dying, interest for death, and thoughts of dying depending on economic level or religion. Significance was shown in suicidal ideation based on whether subjects experienced school violence, and those who had experienced school violence showed higher degree of suicidal ideation than those who had not. Also, reason for dying and thoughts for dying, which are parts of the lower domain of suicidal ideation showed significant difference depending on experience in school violence, and adolescents who had experienced school violence have higher reason for dying and thoughts for dying than those who had not.
Second, results for the relationship between the positive psychological capital and suicidal ideation are as follows. There was a negative correlation between the positive psychological capital and suicidal ideation, and the higher positive psychological capital, the lower the suicidal ideation. Negative correlation was shown between the self-effectiveness of positive psychological capital and the reason and interest for dying of suicidal ideation, and this signifies that self-effectiveness can have positive effect in lowering the reason and interest for death. The hope from positive psychological capital and the reason, interest, and thoughts for dying showed negative correlation, and this signified that hope can have positive effect in lowering of the reason, interest, and thoughts for dying. Negative correlation between force of restitution and the reason, interest, and thoughts for dying was shown, and this signifies that the force of restitution can act as a positive role in lowering the reason, interest, and thoughts for dying. The optimism from positive psychological capital and the reason, interest, and thoughts for dying showed negative correlation, and this signified that optimism can have positive effect in lowering of the reason, interest, and thoughts for dying.
Lastly, the results of effects of positive psychological capital on suicidal ideation are as follows. Positive psychological capital has a negative correlation with suicidal ideation, and it was shown that positive psychological capital is effective in lowering the suicidal ideation. Also, the optimism and the force of restitution significantly correlated negatively to reason for dying, and they also had a significant, negative correlation to the interest and thoughts of suicide. In lowering the reason, interest, and thoughts of dying, optimism and force of restitution were shown significantly effective.
