This study was aimed to examine comparing effects of compassionate imagery and writing for highly criticis students, on emotional reactions and attitude for self. 412 college students were assessed on their self-criticism level and 32 students from high self-criticism groups were chosen to participate in this study. And they were randomly assigned to one of three conditions: compassionate imagery treatment(n=11), compassionate writing treatment(n=11) or neutral treatment(n=10). Their emotions(happiness, sadness, anger and anxiety) and attitude for self(self-reassurance, self-criticizing, self-critical cognition) were measured before and after treatment. As a result, Sadness, anger, anxiety, self-criticizing and self-critical cognition decrease, self-reassurance increase. However, there was no significant difference between the treatment conditions. in other words, there was no difference between the imagery and writing on compassionate treatment for highly criticis student. Lastly the limitatims of this study and future implications were discussed.
