대학생의 성격적 강점과 행복지수와의 관계 = The Relationship between Character Strength and Happiness of University Students

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 연구의 목적은 대학생의 성격적 강점과 행복지수와의 관계를 알아보고자 수행하였다.
Seligman의 긍정심리학에 기반을 둔 이 연구는 대학생의 성격적 강점을 24가지로 구분하여 행복지수와 어떠한 관계가 있는지를 연구하였다.
연구대상은 익산 소재 대학생 257명을 대상으로 실시하였으며 설문지는 연구자가 대학교 교양과목을 수강하는 학생들을 대상으로 하였으며, 설문 응답에 걸리는 시간은 약 15분 정도였다.
대학생의 성격적 강점과 행복지수와 상관을 살펴보기 위해 상관관계를 산출 하였으며, 성격적 강점 중에는 사랑이 가장 높은 정적상관을 보였고, 친절, 인내, 희망 순으로 나타났다.
성별과 출생순위별 성격적 강점은 여학생이 사랑과 인간애 점수가 높았으며, 절제력에서는 남학생이 더 높은 점수를 보였다. 또한 성별에 따른 행복지수의 차이를 연구하였으나 상관이 없음이 밝혀졌고, 출생순위에 따른 행복지수도 상관이 없음이 밝혀졌다.
행복지수에 대한 성격 덕목의 상대적 영향력을 분석한 결과 설명변량은 29%로 산출되었고, 행복지수에 통계적으로 유의미한 영향을 미치는 성격 강점 덕목은 초월성이 가장 높은 상관을 보였으며, 사랑과 인간애, 지혜와 지식, 정의감, 용기, 절제력 순으로 나타났다.
행복지수에 대한 성격 덕목의 상대적 영향력을 분석한 결과 설명변량은 29%로 산출되었고, 행복지수에 통계적으로 유의미한 영향을 미치는 성격 강점 덕목은 초월성이 가장 높은 상관을 보였으며, 사랑과 인간애, 지혜와 지식, 정의감, 용기, 절제력 순으로 나타났다.
이상과 같은 연구 결과를 통해 다음과 같은 결론을 내릴 수 있다.
긍정심리학의 성격적 강점은 우리나라 대학생들의 행복지수를 유의미하게 설명하는 것으로 나타났으며, 성격적 강점을 활용하여 행복증진이 가능한 것으로 보여 진다. 따라서 성격적 강점에 대한 다양한 연구가 필요할 것으로 생각되고, 이에 기반을 둔 개인상담의 기법이라든지, 집단상담의 기법들이 많이 개발, 보급 되어야 할 것으로 보인다.
요컨대, 우리가 추구하는 행복한 삶은 어느 초점에 국한된 것이 아니며, 부정적인 요소가 적음을 의미 하지 않는다. 대학생을 비롯한 청소년들의 생활만족도나 행복지수는 날로 낮아지고 있다고 한다. 그렇기 때문에 나의 성격적 강점을 찾고, 그 강점을 토대로 긍정정서를 함양함으로써 행복한 삶을 영위할 수 있을 것이다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The purpose of this research is to find out the relationship between the characteristic strength and the happiness of university students. The research is based on Seligman’s Positive Psychology and studied about relationship of 24 types of character strengths and happiness rates. The research was targeted on 257 students of Ik-san, and the survey was done by students from the elective courses. 15 minutes were taken for the completion of a survey.
The correlation was derived in order to figure out the relationship of characteristic strength and happiness. Among the characteristic strength, love has the highest positive relationship, and kindness, patience, and hope are followed, respectively.
Among the characteristic strengths in terms of sex and the birth order, female students scored high in love and humanity; while the male students scored higher in disciplines. However, it was figured out that sex has no relationship with happiness, as well as the birth order. The analysis of relative effect of characteristics over happiness shows that explanatory variable was calculated as 29%. In terms of types of characteristic strengths that have statistically significant influence on happiness, transcendence scored the highest, followed by love, humanity, wisdom and intelligence, justice, courage, and discipline, respectively.
From the above research, we could make the following conclusion:
The characteristicstrength from the Positive Psychology, it significantly explains the happiness of Korean university students, and it means that the happiness can be increased by using the characteristicstrengths. Therefore, it requires various researches on characteristic strengths and methods of personal counseling or group counseling must be developed and distributed based on these researches.
In short, our happy life was not limited on certain points and it doesn’t mean that there are few negative factors. It was found out that the happiness and the life satisfaction of young adults, including university students, keep decreasing. Thus, happier life can be established by finding out the characteristic strengths and growing positive attitudes based on these characteristic strengths.
