The subject who is a woman, takes on, through the feminine sense, decorative feature which is expressed by works. Women are born to be craving more beauty than men. The subject had a strong decorative desires from childhood and of the river and pursued beauty enough to cling to decorating looks. the desire of women towards beauty is the primal instincts and the subject expressed the aesthetic desires and artistic instincts through a decorative piece. In chapter Ⅱ, I study the 'theory of desire' of Jacques Lacan (Jacques Lacan, 1901-1981) which is the theoretical background of the works and reviewed the significance of the decoration in paintings and the basic concepts of the decoration which took a large proportion in the works of the subject.
Lacan said that it is difficult to satisfy the instinctive human desire, that one desire produces another desire and that human nature is to desire more and more. Non-fulfillment of the desire eventually produces desire, and it never ends. The subject itself expresses its own aesthetic desire through the works with a beautiful decoration. In the process the subject's works constantly seek more decorativeness than its previous works and became splendor. The more desire toward beauty grows, the more colorful the works became. The subject's work have similarity in that human desire is endless and constantly is reproduced in Lacan's theory of desire.
Human's decorating desires which correspond to the psychological needs are human instincts. The purpose of the human desire of decorations can be divided into the three followings:
First desire is 'sexually attractive expression' to want to look attractive to opposite sex, the second one is 'power trip' to flaunt their wealth and power and the third one is 'a shamanistic symbol' to wish a lucky omen through auspicious patterns. The subject's decorating desires which were revealed in the works correspond to 'sexually attractive expression' which is an aesthetic desire to decorate for beauty and expressing and containing the subject's earnest hope of in the subject's works conform to the 'shamanistic symbol'.
According to the results of the studies on decoration referred to in decorating desires, decoration is not the added adornment, but a psychological calming effect to relieve the anxiety of the spaces to decorate the empty space and at the same time a comprehensive form to provide the visual beauty. In art history, the evaluation of decoration varied slightly depending on eras and decorative features has become an integral part in the modern paintings where decoration is becoming increasingly colorful visualization in the development of media.
The East considered the desire of the human being a sin and the target of temperance whereas the West accept the human desire such as Lacanian theory of desire as the human instinct. in spite of era repression and regulation, a 'ban to wear wig' enforced in the Joseon Yeongjo 32 years (1756) was a symbolic event prohibited by the law due to the rampant trend of luxury and the greed of the women in the country. This s an example underlining the desire of women towards this beauty. Therefore the subject tried to review the expression of repressed desires and the late Joseon women's desire of decoration through the ban to wear wig enforced by the late Joseon through the Chapter Ⅲ. I researched Korean traditional ornamental hairpin and a chignon ornament which were the most extravagant severe head ornaments and through the research I could find that women's desire for the beauty, regardless of the era, has eventually same essence. The main materials for the subject's works are jewelry and I analyzed the symbolism and value of jewelry. Jewelry scarcity, and eternity is the object of all women's craving. Jewelry is a symbol of scarcity and the optimal product to express the desire and it was selected as a main material in the works because the jewelry give the decorative visual beauty with a gorgeous sheen. The characteristics of the works of subject are shiny material, the three-dimensional configuration and the colorful decorative and The subject expressed the subject's decorating needs and aesthetic desires through the decoration. Masterpieces are "Glass Mask: luxury, vanity, desire .... emptiness", "Woman's desire for B," "desire, stained."
The study showed that aesthetic desires of women are endless and its essence is the same, regardless of the era. The subject's aesthetic desires was formed greater from the experience of childhood and the conclusion could be derived that own aesthetic needs are spewed by splendidly decorating the works
