The purpose of this study was to collect useful information by using the Flanders Interaction Analysis tool and research suitable tools by investigating awareness of users.
Analysis were conducted using 14 courses videotaped as OCW(Open CourseWare) from 2010 to 2012 at K university in Daegu. This study used the Easy class analysis Ver 3.54 tool for analysis of OCW. The participants for the survey were five Ph.D. students with a major in Educational Technology. This study also used the open-ended questionnaire and QSR-NVivo 10 tool for analysis of interview.
The results of this study are as follows:
First, this study identified objective data such as ratio of teacher’s indirect interaction, ratio of teacher’s indirect interaction about student’s talk, ratio of repeated teacher’s direct talk, major pattern of class form, ratio of teacher questions, amount of time to wait for student answers after asking the question. By using the Flanders Interaction Analysis tool, scientific results of class analysis can be made.
Second, results indicated that users believed the Flanders Interaction Analysis tool was easy and simple to use. Also, analysis information has advantages to look over objectives, scientifically derived. In addition, the majority of users answered that they will continue to use the Flanders Interaction Analysis tools. Users also answered that the Flanders Interaction Analysis will be a tool to use as a class diagnostic, class improvement, and class reflection in the field of education.
Therefore, results conclude that the Flanders Interaction Analysis provides additional information as well as information that can be obtained when examining general class analysis. Such information can be useful when interpreting the results of analysis of university classes. The interview results, suggest that the Flanders Interaction Analysis has various functions when analyzing university classes. This means that the Flanders Interaction Analysis is suitable as an analysis tool of university classes.
In conclusion, this study has explored the possibility of the Flanders Interaction Analysis as a tool of analyzing and providing supportive data to the improvement of university classes.
