Creative experiential activities are a core part of adolescents’ consolidation of capability, and closely associated with their activities as well. Studies on sociality could provide help to groping after the method of cultivating adolescents’ looks in a correct manner.
On this account, this study examined the influence of creative experiential activities upon adolescents’ sociality. Based on understanding the immediate relationship between adolescents’ experiential activities and their sociality, this study looked into a use plan of adolescents’ sociality-based creative experiential activities. In particular, by establishing the sub-areas of sociality, this study examined their relationship with creative experiential activities, and then groped after an activation strategy of creative experiential activities.
Study method consisted of a questionnaire survey and a focus group interview. A questionnaire survey of 400 boy and girl students (200 students each) in their 1~2 year, sampled with a convenience sampling method, from the first-year students of H Middle School (n=100; 50 each), the second year students of S Middle School (n=100; 50 each), the first year students of J High School (n=100; 50 each), and the second year students of C High School (n=100; 50 each) in Seoul, was carried out and 392 responses were collected. And after carrying out the questionnaire survey, a focus group interview was carried out with 4 students who took part in the questionnaire survey and 2 class teachers. The method was face-to-face interview on the basis of a semi-structured interview guide.
Study findings are as follows:
First, age-oriented difference of adolescents’ sociality was presented only in the areas of stability, activeness and sociability. The results of analysis of questionnaire survey presented the fact that difference existed in such sub-areas of sociality as stability, activeness and sociability. However, the results of analysis of focus group interview presented that among 6 subjects, 4 thought there was no difference, whereas 2 thought there was difference.
Second, school year-oriented difference of adolescents’ sociality was presented only in the area of self-regulating within the middle school. However, the results of analysis of focus group interview presented that 4 thought there was difference, whereas 2 thought there was no difference.
Third, school-oriented difference of adolescents’ sociality was presented in the areas of stability, responsibility and sociability. And in all the areas, the influence of sociality was higher in high schools than in middle schools. The results of analysis of focus group interview presented that 4 thought there was difference, whereas 2 thought there would be no difference.
Fourth, there was no difference in the pattern of creative experiential activities. It seemed to be improbable that difference was presented only by the pattern of activities.
Fifth, according to the participation in creative experiential activities, difference was presented in the sub-areas of sociality diversely. As for the influence of participation in activities upon activeness and stability, the influence of participation in career activities was highest. As for the influence upon responsibility, the influence of participation in clubs, voluntary services and career activities was high. As for the influence of participation in activities upon sociability, the influence of self-regulating, voluntary services and career activities was high. And as for the influence upon self-regulating, the influence of participation in club activities was high.
Based on the above study findings, the investigator presents following suggestions:
First, it is necessary to develop creative experiential activity programs that can increase stability and sociability for boy students and activeness for girl students.
Second, a school year seems to have no great influence upon adolescents’ sociality, but the balance between the area of self-regulating and other areas seems to be necessary in the composition of contents of creative experiential activities in middle schools.
Third, before improving the program of creative experiential activities that increase high school students’ sociality, the distribution of manual for the actual operation and practice seems to be urgent.
Fourth, it is necessary to grope after the strategy of developing not the program of creative experiential activities limited only in an area of sociality, but the direction of creative experiential activities that has a balanced perspective in an integrated area.
Fifth, it is necessary to compose the partially intensified contents of creative experiential activities by classifying the influence of every pattern upon sub-areas of sociality. In addition, it seems to be urgent to grope after the methodological operation of club activities for the increase of sociality.
Finally, based on the analysis of the influence of creative experiential activities upon adolescents’ sociality from the integrated aspect, basic data on the activation strategy of activities are presented as follows:
First, it is necessary to carry out studies on the distribution of operational manuals by patterns and the establishment and development of programs of which focus is on every sub-area of sociality.
Second, it is necessary to compose programs from the aspect of students’ demands.
Third, it is necessary to increase the quality of contents of creative experiential activities that could approach not only an area of sociality but various areas in a balanced manner.
