Mathematics becomes the basis of all studies, thereby being important learning of helping Young Children with possibly understanding and solving a problem in daily life. In the face of this importance, the current early childhood mathematics education is mostly performed at child care center and institute and through home-school material.
This study aims to examine relationship among mothers' mathematics teaching efficacy, the mathematics education environment at home, and Young Children' mathematical disposition and to inquire into which influence the mothers' mathematics teaching efficacy and the mathematics education environment at home have upon each sub-factor of Young Children' mathematical disposition. Through this, the research objective is to make it known for the importance of mothers' mathematical participation and to positively change the mathematical attitude and the mathematics education environment at home. Research problems were established as follows.
Research problem 1. Which relationship is there among mothers' mathematics teaching efficacy, the mathematics education environment at home, and Young Children' mathematical disposition?
Research problem 2. Which influence do mothers' mathematics teaching efficacy and the mathematics education environment at home have upon Young Children' mathematical disposition.
This survey was conducted for 25 days from September 3, 2012 to September 28. Data were collected through questionnaire targeting 249 mothers of Young Children aged fully 5 and 23 homeroom teachers at 18 child care centers where are located in Seoul.
To examine relationship among mothers' mathematics teaching efficacy, the mathematics education environment at home, and Young Children' mathematical disposition according to research problem, SPSS 18.0 program was used. To clarify correlation among mothers' mathematics teaching efficacy, the mathematics education environment at home, and Young Children' mathematical disposition, the product moment correlation was estimated. And to clarify the influence in each of variables for mothers' mathematics teaching efficacy and the mathematics education environment at home upon each sub-factor of Young Children' mathematical disposition, the multiple regression analysis was carried out. The following are the findings that were elicited according to research problem.
First, the significant positive correlation was shown mostly among mothers' mathematics teaching efficacy, the mathematics education environment at home, and Young Children' mathematical disposition. Thus, the relationship among mothers' mathematics teaching efficacy, the mathematics education environment at home, and Young Children' mathematical disposition could be predicted. Through research, the mothers' mathematics teaching efficacy could be known to show the higher correlation with Young Children' mathematical disposition than the mathematics education environment at home.
Second, mothers' mathematics teaching efficacy showed the statistically significant positive explanatory power in Young Children' mathematical disposition of ‘flexibility·self-confidence· continuity·self-inspection·applicability·interest.’ This can be predicted that the mothers' higher mathematics teaching efficacy leads to the Young Children' higher mathematical disposition in ‘flexibility·self- confidence·continuity·self-inspection·applicability·interest.’ In case of the mathematics education environment at home, the positive explanatory power was shown in Young Children' mathematical disposition of ‘self-confidence·interest.’ It was indicated to have negative explanatory power in mathematical disposition of ‘self-confidence·applicability.’
Third, when the mathematics education environment at home explains Young Children' mathematical disposition along with mothers' mathematics teaching efficacy, the mothers' mathematics teaching efficacy had no change. However, sub-factors of mathematics education environment at home were reduced significance or were changed the direction of explanatory power to negative direction from positive direction. This can be predicted that the mathematical activity of being together with mother has the higher influence upon Young Children' mathematical disposition than the offer only of mathematics education environment at home.
