크로스오버 그림책에 관한 개념 연구 = On some operational definitions of the crossover picturebook

국문 초록 (Abstract)

포스트모더니즘이 등장한 이후 21세기 시대는 장르간의 통합과 분화가 활발히 일어나면서 끊임없이 새로운 문화 환경을 만들어 내고 있다.
포스트모더니즘의 현상 중 하나인 크로스오버(Crossover)는 융합, 혼성, 이종결합의 뜻으로 장르간의 경계를 허무는 역할을 했고 21세기 문화를 해석하는 중요한 키워드 중 하나로 자리하고 있다. 크로스오버는 음악, 패션, 음식, 미술 등 다양한 분야에 활발히 적용되었으며 그림책에도 영향을 주었다.
통상 아동문학의 한 장르로 구분되었던 그림책은 최근 성인그림책의 등장과, 아동그림책과 성인그림책의 어떠한 분류에도 속할 수 없는 경계에 끼인 모호한 형태의 그림책이 출판되기 시작하면서 독자의 연령에 구속받지 않는 크로스오버그림책들에 대한 연구가 필요한 상황이 되었다.
진정한 그림책은 글과 그림 어느 쪽에도 편중되는 것 없이 글과 그림의 상호작용에 의해 의미를 갖는 독자적 예술형식으로 접근해야 한다는 시각과, 독자의 연령을 고려하지 않고 자신의 메시지를 전달하기 위한 하나의 수단으로 그림책을 활용하는 작가들에 의한 작가주의 그림책이 영향을 미쳐 그림책을 아동문학의 장르만으로 설명할 수 없다는 주장들에 힘이 실리고 있다. 이러한 현상을 반영하여 본 연구는 크로스오버그림책의 개념정립과 그림책이 독자적 예술형태로 분류되어야 한다는 주장에 기초적 근거를 마련하는 것을 목적으로 하였다.
연구목적을 달성함에 있어서 먼저 이론적 배경을 통해 크로스오버의 개념을 이해하고 타 예술분야와는 다른 그림책만의 고유한 구성 원리를 고찰하여 그림책의 내제된 속성 자체가 크로스오버에 있음을 확인하였다. 이어서 동시대의 그림책 중 아동그림책과 성인그림책의 경계를 오고가는 크로스오버적 특징이 잘 반영되어 있는 『빨간 나무』, 『내가 함께 있을게』,『아기돼지 세 마리』,『앗, 깜깜해』, 『세 개의 황금 열쇠』,『섬』,『100만 번 산 고양이』,『앞둘 가사지의 정원』총 8권의 그림책을 선정하여 분석을 통해 크로스오버 유형을 기능, 내용, 표현측면으로 분류하고 공통적으로 드러나는 특성들을 알아보았다. 그 결과 크로스오버그림책은 아동그림책과 성인그림책에서 교차할 수 없었던 고유한 특징들을 기능, 내용, 표현에 있어서 다양한 형태로 교차하고 있음을 알 수 있었다. 하지만 그 중 표현
방법에 있어서 아동그림책의 표현법을 전혀 포함하지 않고 성인그림책의 표현법 만을 사용하는 것은 크로스오버그림책이 될 수 없는 표현법임이 확인되었다.
본 연구는 그림책 분야의 새로운 흐름을 일으키고 있는 크로스오버에 대한 기초 작업에 해당하며 이를 바탕으로 크로스오버그림책에 대한 심도 깊은 연구들을 통해 그림책이 하나의 독자적 예술형식으로 인정받는 중요한 근거로 사용되어지길 기대한다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

After post-modernism appeared, the 21st century is continuously creating a new cultural environment where integration and diversion of genres occurs vigorously. Crossover one of the post-modernism phenomenon, refers to fusion, mixing and hybrid which has played the role of breaking the boundary among genres and held its position as an important key words in the interpretation of the 21st century culture. Crossover which has been widely applied to various fields such as music, fashion, food and arts has also influenced picture books. With respect to the picture book usually classified as one genre in child literature, study is needed on the crossover picture books which are not bounded to the reader's age as the adult picture books appear recently and those of ambiguous form classified neither child nor adult picture books.
There are two positions to picture book: One position argues that the true picture book should be approached in a unique artistic form which finds its meaning in the interaction between text and picture without being biased toward text or picture; Another position influenced by the authorism of the authors who utilize picture book as a means to deliver their message without taking into account the reader's age argues that picture book are not simply explained by a genre of child literature genre. Reflecting this phenomena, this study is intended to establish the concept of crossover picture book and lay the foundation for the argument that picture book shall be classified as an independent genre.
To this end, this study attempted to understand the crossover concept through the theoretical background, examined the unique construction principle in picture book different from other artistic areas and identified the inherent characteristics of picture book as crossover. Subsequently this study selected and analyzed 8 picture books among the contemporary ones which well reflect the crossover characteristics crossing over the boundary between child and adult picture books including 『Red Tree』, 『I Will Be with You』,『Three Little Pigs』,『Oops, It's Dark』,『Three Golden Keys』,『Island』,『Cat Surviving 100 Million Times』,『The Garden of Abdul Gasaze』. Then this study classified the types of crossover in terms of function, contents and expression and examined the common characteristics. As the result, this study found that the crossover picture books have their unique characteristics crossed-over in terns of function, contents and expression, unlike in adult or child picture books. However, this study also found that they used only those
from adult picture book without using those from child picture books, which is not considered as the expression method for crossover picture book.
This study may be regarded as a basic work on crossover which creates a new trend in picture book field. It is expected that future in-depth studies on picture book based on this study finding would lay the foundation for picture book to be acknowledged as an independent art form.
