The purpose of this study was to classify the mediating effects of traumatized self-system on the relationship between interpersonal trauma exposes and interpersonal problems in adolescents. The data for this study consist of 694 co-ed students of both classical and vocational high schools located in Incheon province. For this purpose, the sample of 694 high school students(324 men and 370 women) were asked to complete Childhood Traumatic Questionnaire(CTQ), School Violence Scale, Traumatic Self-System Scale(TSSS), Korea Inventory of Interpersonal Problem(KIIP-SC), Marlowe-Crowne Social Desirability Scale. The data was analyzed by utilizing t-test, correlation analysis, and structural equational modeling, multi group analysis.
The results were as follow; First, this research conducted correlation analysis of the interpersonal trauma expose, traumatized self-system and interpersonal problems. There was significant positive correlation among all variables. Second, we conducted a t-test to identify a gender difference in the correlation of an interpersonal trauma expose, a traumatized self-system and interpersonal problems. As a result, statistically female groups showed a significantly greater traumatized self-system compared to male ones. Third, we conducted a t-test to identify interpersonal problems difference according to a traumatized self-system. The students who had a high level of a traumatized self-system were found to have a high level of interpersonal problems. Finally, we conducted a structural equational modeling to identify the mediated effect of a traumatized self-system from the interpersonal trauma expose and interpersonal problems. The perfect mediating effect of a traumatized self-system was identified.
These results contributed to understanding of adolescents about the interpersonal trauma and their traumatized self-system and interpersonal problems. More and more, these results contributed to offering the primary information about preventive treatment in the counseling.
Based on these findings, the limitations of this study and suggestions for follow-up research are further discussed.
