The Effect of Literary Activity Using Picture Books
on Children's Prosocial Behavior

The purpose of this paper is to research the effect of literary activity using picture books on children's prosocial behavior.
This paper sets its research subjects as follow :

1. Do literary activity using picture books improve children's prosocial behavior?

1.1 How do literary activity using picture books improve children's personal emotion control ability?
1.2 How do literary activity using picture books improve children's interpersonal relationship formation ability?
1.3 How do literary activity using picture books improve children's nursery adaptation ability?
1.4 How do literary activity using picture books improve children's prosocial behavior according to the age and sex?

For this paper, the subjects were 21 preschoolers of 3 years old and 4 years old at the H nursery located in Cheong-Ju district and treatment was provided 14 times.
Pre-to-post test was rated to understand the differences of before, after children's prosocial behavior according to picture books for experimental group.
For the prosocial behavior test of children was used 'Prosocial behavior test of children' revised by Lee, Won Young etc(1993), which was produced by McGinnis & Goldstein(1990) as 'Skill Situation Measure'.

This research result is summarized into following.
First, literary activity using picture books lets children's prosocial behavior have statistically significant differences(Z=-4.033, p=.000). This means that literary activity using picture books has positive effects on children's prosocial behavior.

Second, literary activity using picture books lets children's personal emotion control ability of prosocial behavior have statistically significant differences(Z=-3.643, p=.000). This means that literary activity using picture books has positive effects on children's emotion control ability.

Third, literary activity using picture books lets children's interpersonal relationship formation ability of prosocial behavior have statistically significant differences(Z=-3.244, p=.001). This means that literary activity using picture books has positive effects on children's interpersonal relationship formation ability.

Fourth, literary activity using picture books lets children's nursery adaptation ability of prosocial behavior have statistically significant differences(Z=-3.880, p=.000).
This means that literary activity using picture books has positive effects on children's nursery adaptation ability.

Fifth, literary activity using picture books lets children's prosocial behavior have no statistically significant differences according to children's age and sex.

In conclusion, literary activity using picture books has personal emotion control ability enhance, interpersonal relationship formation ability help and nursery adaptation ability increase. Additionally, significant differences of children's prosocial behavior with literary activity using picture books were not found statistically according to children's age and sex.
In this paper, it is verified that literary activity using picture books has positive effects on prosocial behavior of children. These positive effects of prosocial behavior in children's social development show a great influence on early childhood education. Therefore, it is considered that literary activity using picture books is a fine method on prosocial behavior improvement.

본 연구는 그림책을 활용한 문학 활동이 유아의 친사회적 행동에 미치 는 영향을 알아보고자 하는데 목적이 있다.
본 연구의 목적에 따라 다음과 같은 연구 문제를 설정하였다.

1. 그림책을 활용한 문학 활동이 유아의 친사회적 행동에 미치는 영향 은 어떠한가?
1-1 그림책을 활용한 문학 활동이 유아의 개인정서 조절능력에 미치는 영향은 어떠한가?
1-2 그림책을 활용한 문학 활동이 유아의 대인관계 형성능력에 미치는 영향은 어떠한가?
1-3 그림책을 활용한 문학 활동이 유아의 어린이집 적응능력에 미치는 영향은 어떠한가?
1-4 그림책을 활용한 문학 활동이 유아의 연령, 성에 따라 친사회적 행동에 미치는 영향은 어떠한가?
본 연구 대상은 충청북도 청주시에 소재한 H어린이집에 재원 중인 만3, 4세 유아 21명을 대상으로 하였으며, 총 14회에 걸쳐 실험처치가 이루어졌다. 사전 검사를 통해 대상 유아들의 친사회적 행동 발달 정도를 검사하고 문학 활동 프로그램을 실시한 후 사후 검사를 실시하여 유아의 친사회적 행동에 미치는 효과를 비교 분석 하였다.
유아의 친사회적 행동 검사를 위해 사용한 도구는 McGinnis와 Goldstein(1990)이 유아의 친사회적 기술을 측정하기 위해 제작한 ‘Skill Situation Measure'를 이원영 외(1993)가 수정·번안하여 제작한 ’친사회적 행동 검사를 사용하였다.

본 연구의 결과를 요약해 보면 다음과 같다.
첫째, 그림책을 활용한 문학 활동은 유아의 친사회적 행동 전체에서 통계적으로 유의미한 차이가 있는 것으로 나타났다(Z=-4.033, p=.000). 이는 그림책을 활용한 문학 활동이 유아의 친사회적 행동에 긍정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 볼 수 있다.
둘째, 그림책을 활용한 문학 활동은 유아의 친사회적 행동의 구성 요인인 개인정서 조절능력에 통계적으로 유의한 차이가 있는 것으로 나타났다(Z=-3.643, p=.000). 이는 그림책을 활용한 문학 활동이 유아의 개인정서 조절능력에 긍정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 볼 수 있다.
셋째, 그림책을 활용한 문학 활동은 유아의 친사회적 행동의 구성 요인 중 대인관계 형성능력에 통계적으로 유의한 차이가 있는 것으로 나타났다(Z=-3.244, p=.001). 이는 그림책을 활용한 문학 활동이 유아의 대인관계 형성능력에 긍정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 볼 수 있다.
넷째, 그림책을 활용한 문학 활동은 유아의 친사회적 행동의 구성 요인 중 어린이집 적응능력에 통계적으로 유의미한 차이가 있는 것으로 나타났다(Z=-3.880, p=.000). 이는 그림책을 활용한 문학 활동이 유아의 어린이집적응능력에 긍정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 볼 수 있다
다섯째, 그림책을 활용한 문학 활동은 유아의 연령, 성에 따라 친사회적 행동 발달이 통계적으로 유의미한 차이가 없었다.

이상의 결과를 종합해보면, 그림책을 활용한 문학 활동을 통해 유아들이 개인정서 조절능력을 기르고 대인관계 형성능력을 도우며 어린이집 적응능력, 즉 친사회적 행동이 향상되었음을 알 수 있다. 또한 그림책을 활용한 문학 활동은 유아의 연령, 성에 따라 통계적으로 유의미한 차이가 없었다.

본 연구는 그림책을 활용한 문학 활동이 유아의 친사회적 행동에 긍정적인 영향을 미친다는 사실을 실증적으로 검증하였다. 유아의 사회성 발달에 있어 친사회적 행동의 긍정적인 효과는 유아교육에 대단한 영향을 미친다. 그러므로 유아교육과정에서 그림책을 활용한 문학 활동이 친사회적 행동개발에 좋은 매체라고 할 수 있다.
