This research has the purpose of examining the job satisfaction of dancers belonging to national and public dance companies in Seoul and find grounds to improve the efficiency in carrying out one’s work as a working professional, and to provide preliminary data for professional development.
To achieve the goals of this study 240 members of 5 national and public dance companies located in Seoul were selected and surveys were used as the research tool, and tools for measuring job satisfaction developed by 4 individuals including Slavitt (1978) and a survey for advanced research, on the basis of criteria by using an edited and supplemented version of the survey questions developed for a survey for the job satisfaction of coaches by Lee Sang-cheol (1986). A T-test and ANOVA: Analysis of Variance was conducted to test whether there was a deviation in job satisfaction from the collected data. To make use of the analysis methods presented above the SPSS 19.0 (Statistical Package for Social Science 19.0) program was used. The following conclusions were drawn from the above such research methods. First, there was a noticeable deviation in job satisfaction according to the demographic characteristics of career dancers. Second there was a noticeable deviation in the work environment of career dancers. Third, there was a noticeable deviation in job satisfaction according to the individual work factors of the career dancers. Fourth, there was no difference in job satisfaction according to compensation of career dancers and economic environment. In conclusion, there was a difference in the demographic characteristics, the work environment, and the individual work factors, but there was no difference in job satisfaction according to wages, or economic conditions.
