The purpose of this study was to examine the relations of mother's parenting stress, parenting behavior, and parenting efficacy to children's social competence. The subjects of study were the children who attended 5 kindergartens located in Kumi-si and Chilgok-gun, Gyeongsangbuk-do. Exactly 300 survey copies were distributed and 234 were collected. The collected data were processed by the Pearson's correlation analysis to identify the relationship between mother's parenting stress, parenting behavior, parenting efficacy and children's social competence, using SPSS 18.0 program. Simple regression analysis and multiple regression analysis, were conducted to investigate the explanatory strength which affected mother's parenting stress, parenting behavior, parenting efficacy and children's social competence.
The results of the analyses were as follows;
First, mother's parenting stress and children's social competence recognized by mothers had the negative correlation. The uncontrollable disposition of a child, which is the sub-class of mother's parenting stress, was negatively related to children's social competence recognized by mothers.
Second, mother's parenting behavior and children's social competence recognized by mothers had the positive correlation. The warmth and encouragement, which is the sub-class of mother's parenting behavior was positively related to children's social competence recognized by mother's.
Third, mother's parenting efficacy and children's social competence recognized by mother's had the positive correlation. And mother's parenting efficacy and children's social competence recognized by mothers were positively related to personal adaptability.
