유아기 음악교육이 인성형성에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구

Today, our society is enjoying unprecedented economic growth and material affluence. However, it has negative aspects in that many people cannot fully enjoy mental comfort and well-being as they are struggling with a sense of deprivation and inequality due to fierce competition brought about by capitalism. As a way to overcome these negative side effects of our society, people pursue music.
Music becomes the source of energy that comforts the body and mind. People who are tired and exhausted in the modern society can express their feelings through singing in which beautiful melodies heal their emotions. When music is used in education, it can become the foundation of a well-balanced character and a rich life. In particular, early childhood music education improves not only musical ability, but also promotes positive emotional development by stimulating children’s senses.
This paper analyzes researches based on various theories on early childhood music education and tries to find out how early childhood music education affects character formation from various perspectives. In order to conduct the research effectively, a survey was conducted among high school students on the necessity of early childhood music education and its effects on character formation. Following three research questions were developed for this study.
First, what is the meaning of character education?
Second, what is the link between early childhood education and character formation?
Third, what effects does early childhood music education have on character formation?
In this research, it is particularly considered the effects of early childhood music education on character formation from a philosophical aspect of music education rather than a musicological aspect.
The results from the research are as below.
First, early childhood is an appropriate time to do music education to instill a love for music in every day life.
Second, early childhood music education develops musicality by stimulating children’s senses, thereby fostering a creative spirit and having positive effects on the development of social character.
Third, early childhood music education is helpful to nurture well-rounded personality of children since music education is done when children’s aesthetic sensibility is developed.
Fourth, the survey conducted among 74 high school students indicated that 71 students recognized the necessity of early childhood music education and 58 students responded that early childhood music education has positive effects on character formation.
Early childhood music education has been implemented in child education institutions in various ways through singing, listening and creative musical activities, etc. However, more child-focused music programs are still needed to make more professional and systematic efforts to improve music education for those in early childhood. It is proposed that early childhood music education can be a key tool in children’s character development. Therefore, it is important to keep in mind that all music activities can have a positive influence on the character development of children.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

오늘날 사회는 경제성장과 더불어 물질적 풍요를 인간에게 제공해 주고 있지만 경쟁 구조와 자본주의의 폐해로 인해 비교 의식, 상대적 박탈감이 만연하여 정신적 여유와 안정은 제공하지 못 하는 부정적인 측면도 있다. 그래서 이를 극복하기 위한 방법의 하나로서 인간은 음악적 가치를 추구한다.
음악은 복잡한 현대사회의 삶에 지친 우리들에게 아름다운 음악을 선사하고 내재된 감정을 노래 부르기를 통해 표출함으로써 심신을 달래주는 활력소가 된다. 이러한 음악이 교육으로서 가치를 지닐 때 올바른 인성형성의 밑거름이 되며 정서적으로 풍요로운 삶을 위해 중요한 역할을 하게 된다. 특히, 인성형성의 가장 기초가 되는 유아기의 음악교육은 음악적 재능을 키워줄 뿐만 아니라 음악을 통해 유아의 모든 감각을 자극하여 긍정적인 정서의 발달을 이끌어 주는데 의미가 있다.
이 연구는 먼저 유아기 음악교육에 대한 선행연구를 분석하고, 유아기 음악교육이 인성형성에 어떤 영향을 미치는가에 대해서 다양한 시각으로 접근해 보고자 한다. 그리고 본 연구 결과의 이해를 돕기 위해 고등학생을 대상으로 유아기 음악교육의 필요성과 유아기 음악교육이 인성형성에 끼친 영향에 대한 인식 조사를 실시하였다. 주요한 논의는 다음과 같다.
첫째, 인성교육의 의미는 무엇인가?
둘째, 인성교육으로서 유아기 음악교육이 갖는 의의는 무엇인가?
셋째, 유아기 음악교육이 인성형성에 어떤 영향을 미치는가?
이 연구에서는 특히 유아기 음악교육의 이해를 음악학적 관점보다는 음악교육의 철학적 관점을 토대로 인성형성에 미치는 영향으로 고찰하였다. 이상의 연구결과에서 논자는 다음과 같은 결론을 얻을 수 있었다.
첫째, 유아기는 음악교육을 통해 음악을 생활화 할 수 있도록 도와주어 생활자체에서 음악을 느끼고 사랑할 수 있도록 하는 적절한 교육의 시기이다.
둘째, 유아기에서 신체적 발달 특성과 인지적 발달 특성에 맞추어 적절한 음악교육이 이루어질 때, 유아의 감각을 자극하여 음악성을 계발하고 나아가 자기표현의 창조적인 경험과 사회성 발달에 긍정적인 효과를 기대할 수 있다.
셋째, 유아기 음악교육은 미적 감수성이 성립되는 시기에 이루어지므로, 미적 경험을 기초로 원만한 인간성을 성장시킨다는 것이다.
넷째, 고등학생 74명 대상으로 설문 조사한 결과 71명 학생들이 유아기 음악교육의 필요성을 느끼고 있었고, 58명 학생들은 유아기 음악교육이 인성형성에 영향을 미친다고 인식하는 것으로 나타났다.
오늘날의 유아기 음악교육은 과거와는 달리 가창 ․ 감상 ․ 창작 등 다양한 분야로 확대되어 유아교육기관에서 시행되고 있지만 유아중심의 음악활동이 더욱 필요하며, 유아의 감성을 개발할 수 있는 음악교육 프로그램을 바탕으로 더욱 전문적이고 체계적인 노력이 계속 되어져야 한다. 그리고 모든 음악 활동이 유아들의 인성형성에 절대적인 영향을 미치고 있음을 기억하며 유아기 음악교육을 통한 올바른 인성의 방향을 제시할 수 있어야 한다.
