Research on effective instructional methods for history have been conducted through various approaches for last decades. In a related move, the museum’s educational function is stand out. And museum is a good place to teach history for people. Therefore various studies about apply to various instructional method at museum’s education programs were researched.
This study aims to examine how the students understand and get historical knowledge with historical objects in museum. For identify this study, produce a work-sheet for Goryeo dynasty program and investigate the pre/post survey which is written by students. The results of this research and study as follows,
First, even though students choose same subject, they selected different objects each others. And although students choose same object, they understood object’s meaning. different. This means students understanding objects and historical knowledge with various angle.
Second, the most student select the subject about ‘What is the though of Goryeo’s people?` and the next, in case of a middle school students choose ‘Who was the celebrity in Goryeo dynasty?’ and a high school student selected ‘Which countries have met with Goryeo?’ These are connected with ‘secondary school history curriculum’, especially high school emphasis on the relationship with world history is different from middle school.
Third, in museum education, students could freshly recognize history. Although they already know and feel friendly about some object, they could find some new informations while observing objects. This tendency remarkably appears in high school students who has more historical knowledge than middle school students on average.
Fourth, in the pre-survey, many students expected about ‘Observing original objects’, ‘Learning and getting interest in historical knowledge’. And in the post-survey, most of all students satisfy the program. They learn and get interested in history. Through the museum‘s educational activities, it could help students learn history effectively.
However, this study have some limitation. Participating students were smart and highly motivated in history and museum. Therefore, the further studies needs to refer student’s characteristics, level, regional characteristic and produce museum work-sheet with it and apply to ordinary schools.
